Part 1

David woke up on the couch in his office. He reached out to stroke Veronicas arm but he felt nothing but empty air. He heart raced as he groped around for her in the darkness. She had been there with him when he had fallen asleep. Now she was gone.

He tried to talk himself into calming down. How had he gotten like this? He was so attached to another human being that her unexpected absence sent him spinning off the edge. Even as his mind wandered circling the labyrinth of why he still felt for her.

He hated to admit it but he needed the comfort of her touch. This usually would disgust him; weakness. But there was nothing that would sway him from his passion for his wife. She made him complete and he couldn’t turn away from that emotion no matter how hard he had tried. Still David had stopped trying long ago when he realized any attempt was in vain.

Suddenly his phone rang out with a text message alert. He was so deep in his thoughts that the familiar sound made him jump. He silently cursed himself as we reached down to pick up his phone from the floor.

He swiped his finger across the home screen to unlock it. Still half asleep his eyes wouldn’t focus on the message. David brusquely began to scrub his face willing the fog of sleep to fade away. Once again he looked down and again unlocked his phone. The text message was from a number he didn’t know. His eyebrows rose as he read:

“9   14-5-5-4   25-15-21”

“What in the hell?” David began rubbing his eyes again. He was sure that he had to be dreaming. This text message made absolutely no sense at all. Who was sending him this message and what did they mean?

David stood up and began pacing the floor. Something about the message struck him. He knew that he shouldn’t ignore it. He was a lawyer he found missing evidence. He could figure this out. Well he was pretty sure he could. Still, some part of him was almost positive that he was dreaming.

Part 2

Two hours later and David was still trying to figure out the riddle. Just when he was throwing up his hands his phone alerted to another incoming text message.

“3-15-13-5   20-15   13-5  2-1-2-25”

Again with the cryptic messages? His frustration level was quickly rising. If the message was so important why didn’t they just say it instead of beating around the bush? His rant became louder as his frustration level rose. His pace became faster and faster.
