Zoe’s POV
“You’re gonna like this!” Maggie smiled widely at me with eager eyes.
“What is it?”
She reached into her purse to pull out her phone. She unlocked it and scrolled through it, looking for something held within. She began talking as she continued her quest to find whatever she was looking for. “So the other day I went to this art gallery thing, and let me just say, everyone there is so serious and boring! Ugh! And like they just expect you to be all philosophical about some really basic paintings. Like there was this drawing of a black and white stick on a red background and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a cool looking stick’ but everyone was nagging about how the red is like a sea or how the stick meant suffering or some random crap like that. And then there was this other painting of an old lady, which reminded me of my grandmother, who actually, I need to call her to see if her dog was given away. Oh my gosh, she has the cutest little dog! It’s so small! And it fits in my purse, and-”
“Maggie! Tangent!” She always had a tendency to go off topic and ramble on about other stories and forget what we were talking about.
“Oh right! What were we talking about?”
“You were at the art gallery.”
“Oh yeah, right! Well, like I said, everyone in there is like super stuck up and everything was so boring. That is, until I ran into this guy!” She handed me her phone, revealing a pic of her next to a guy way taller than her. He had slightly dark brown hair that formed a small quaff in the front, semi-blue eyes, and his face held a cheeky smile. His lips were thin and pink, and his body was tall, thin, and masculine. His smile was contagious, so I couldn’t help but smile back at the beautiful boy in front of me. “His name is Ben Gardner. He’s really funny and sarcastic, in the good way that makes you wanna hate him, but he’s just so damn lovable, that you can’t. He’s into art, obviously, but he also likes music and filming shorts. He’s super sweet and strong, and, here’s the best part, he’s single!”
“Umm, Maggie, you have a boyfriend. Stop drooling.”
“Ha. Ha. Funny,” she rolled her eyes, but then continued, “I know that, and he knows that. That’s why, I talked you up to him. And now he wants to meet you! Huh! Wing woman of the year ay? Ay?”
She winked at me as I blushed. She knows I hate setups, but this was really sweet of her. The guy was cute, and he did seem like an interesting person, but something was holding me back. Alfie. Maggie doesn’t know about Alfie, so this isn’t her fault. I sat there deciding whether or not to take up on her offer. Louise told me to stay away from him, and maybe she had a point, although I don’t see why. Alfie was still very sweet to me. But then again, Alfie and I are just new friends, so it’s not like if I go on a date with someone else, I’d be betraying him. “Alright, well, since you seem so interested in us meeting, why not? But if he does not meet expectations, I’m not letting you set me up with a guy again, deal?”
“Deal!” She squealed loudly as her coffee came to the table, once again spilling it on me as she tried to hug me. “Oh! Sorry Zoella! Let me help you!”
“No, it’s fine…again. I got it.”
“Ok, well I’ll call Ben and then send you the information for your date! Oooh I’m so excited for you guys!!”
******************
We stayed in the diner for one more hour, talking about Maggie and her boyfriend Zach, Maggie’s new pet dog, how I am looking for a job these days, and other stuff we needed to catch up on. I still didn’t tell her about Alfie, however. Maggie seemed super excited about me meeting this Ben guy, and I didn’t want her to think that something else was going on already.
