A ray of yellow sunlight escaped, through a rather large hole, from the grey curtains that hung over the window in my bedroom. The light shone directly onto my face, waking me up. I rolled my eyes and looked over at my brother's bed, only to find him gone. However, the delightful smell that filled our small home lead me to the kitchen where he was cooking breakfast.
As I walked along the hall in my white long-sleeved top, black shorts and slippers, I stretched and rubbed my eyes making sure I was awake, before entering the kitchen.
"Oh, good morning sleepy head. I'm making breakfast, hope you don't mind" Steve said as he turned to see me at the fridge.
I grumbled thanks back and poured us both some orange juice, before sitting at the small table in our kitchen.
"So I wanted to take you to the movies to see that new movie that's out," Steve said as he began plating out breakfast. "Then Bucky wants to meet us tonight, apparently there's something important he wants to tell us"Steve took a seat opposite me and started eating.
"Thanks, Steve, I appreciate what you do for me, but if you have anything better to do then hang out with your sister then tell me" I joked, trying not to laugh. He gave me a stern look before returning to eat his breakfast.
"Oh scar, you know I have nothing better to do than hang out with my annoying, little sister"I rolled my eyes and continued eating.
"Did James say exactly why he wanted to talk to us? And where are we meeting him? Do I have to dress up fancy or something?" I asked out of pure curiosity.Steve took a swig if his orange and shook his head.
"No he didn't actually, he just said he wanted to talk to us both. I think we're going to that stark thing that's on tonight? I'm not sure though. You know how nerdy James is."
We both laugh in sync, thinking about our best friend and how nerdy he actually was. After breakfast, I helped Steve wash up the plates and glasses before heading to my room to get ready for my planned day.
I put on a black and white spotted dress with a pair of small black heels and combed my messy blonde hair into a styled twisted bun.
I made my way into our small living room where Steve was waiting for me on a scruffy, brown couch in the corner of the room."Are you sorted?" He said looking up from the newspaper he was reading.
I looked around, up and down before dashing into my own room to retrieve something.
"I forgot my purse"
He got up, chuckling to himself and let me out the front door, before locking it.We walked together down towards the movie theatre and bought the tickets to see the show.
It wasn't exactly as good as I imagined but maybe that was because a very rude man was interrupting it every couple of minutes. Steve could see me getting aggravated and told him to shut up continuously.Steve got up and left for a brief moment, then the other man did. Suddenly my heart began to sink.
When he didn't come back I began to get suspicious so followed where he went. When I opened the back door I saw him covered in blood and bruises, getting kicked by the rude man from the movie theatre. I grabbed his shoulder and pull him back."Oi, leave my brother alone mister." But instead, he shoved me out of the way, sending me to the floor.
It wasn't long before a familiar face picked me up again. He smiled and approached Steve and the man."I could do this all day," Steve said spitting blood, before receiving another punch to his face.
Before the man could do anything else, Bucky intervened, punching the man and breaking his nose.
"Pick on someone your own size"
The man cowered and ran off leaving Steve, Bucky and I in the alleyway.James chuckled and put his hand out for Steve.
"Sometimes, I think you like getting punched"
Steve gladly took his hand and brushed himself down.
"I had him on the ropes."
Like Bucky, I had noticed a form on the floor and picked it up.
"Steve? What's this?"
Bucky took it from my hands to look.
"How many times is this? And lying on your enlistment forms...again. You know that's illegal right?"
