Arrest

After that phone call with Zoe, I decided to take a little walk around this town. The town was starting to come to life, as it was 7:00am. I found a Starbucks coffee shop, so my breakfast was a bagel with a coffee. There were 6 police officers in there, and they were talking about me.

"Did you hear that the McCrackens Ferrari California was stolen this morning?" an officer identified as Jones said.

"Yeah. I even heard that the car thieves started heading south, towards this town!" another officer named Mendoza said.

"Well, we got the license plate. It is Texas 8JGB365, with a bunch of bumper stickers advertising FunJungle on the end." Officer Ramirez said.

"Oh! I think I saw that car driving around the hospital early this morning!" Mendoza said.

"What! You did? How come you didn't alert us! The car could be all the way in Houston right now!" Sheriff Blemens exclaimed.

"Well, for one thing they weren't in a hurry. And they were heading towards this part of town." Mendoza replied.

"Good," the sheriff said gruffly. "Let's get all of the cars out, and start a search. I will post an APB for this car. This shouldn't be hard to find. This is a very small town. Let's go."

However, once they got to the parking lot, they all froze. There was some hushed discussion, and then they stationed one officer at the car, and then 5 of them ran back into the Starbucks.

"Alberta County PD!" The sheriff announced loudly. "This building is under lockdown! Everybody freeze! We have reason to believe that a car thief is in the building!"

If I wasn't supposed to act innocent at the moment, I would have slapped myself angrily. Why did I steal the McCrackens Ferrari? It was the most recognizable car in Texas! I surveyed my surroundings, and was instantly disappointed. There were only six others in the coffee shop besides the cops. There were 2 Starbucks employees, me, a fat woman drinking a mocha and having a large cookie, a skinny man drinking an espresso, and a very tall man working on his computer and having a size venti coffee.

The sheriffs eyes narrowed. He started using the process of elimination. "The two Starbucks employees have been here since the opening, Mrs. Young has been in this town for the past week, and Mr. Knight was coming from his house at 6. That means the only two people who don't have alibis are Mr. Clayton, and you, kid."

The sheriff marched the thin man and me out, and into the police car. We were obviously going to the police station. Once we got there, the sheriff sat us down and started questioning us. This was absolutely horrible! First Erica stuck in the hospital, and now me under arrest? Would my friends have to solve this on their own? Mr. Clayton was being questioned right now, and he was claiming that he hadn't left this town for the past two days. All of a sudden, the door opened, and there was a flurry of action. Before I knew what was happening, the sheriff and Mr. Clayton were knocked unconscious, and I was being dragged out of the room and the police station. After we were 10 miles away in a car, my savior's were revealed. Cyrus was at the wheel, and Jawa, Zoe, and Chip were in the car.

"Hi, Ben! Nice to see you again!" Zoe chirped as we rode along, as if this was a family reunion, and not just a jailbreak.

I didn't want to crush Zoe's mood, but I had to tell her what was going on. "Uhh, Zoe, I don't mean to make you sad, but right now I'm charged with trespassing, grand theft auto, jailbreak, and probably a dozen more crimes. So this situation's pretty bad right now."

"So you didn't waste any time at all screwing up this mission at all, did you?" Cyrus raged from the front. "You just got arrested and charges with several crimes, as so did we, and my granddaughter's lying in a hospital bed, inactive due to a bullet wound!"
