Chapter 2

AJ Styles' POV

Tonight I've decided to issue a WWE Championship open challenge, since I'm craving some competition. Actually, I'd better bring the idea to Paige, who is the SmackDown general manager. As I'm walking to the general managers office, I bump into Carmella.

Out of nowhere, she jumps into my arms and starts making out with me. She releases the kiss, smiles, and walks away. What the hell just happened? Charlotte is challenging Carmella for the SmackDown Women's Championship at Summerslam, maybe this is a way to get inside Charlottes head? I brush it off and knock on Paige's door.

"Come in!" She yells from inside the office. I open the door and enter the room. "Hello AJ, how may I help you?" She asks in her thick British accent. "You see Paige, I've been craving some competition lately," I say. "so I was thinking of issuing an open challenge for the WWE Championship. What do you think?" I ask.

"I like the sound of that. So it's official! Tonight, in the main event of SmackDown, it will be a WWE Championship open challenge!" She says, smiling.

I leave the room and find Renee Young with a camera man standing outside the office, apparently waiting for me so she could interview me.

"AJ, we just saw you walk out of general manager Paige's office, would you be able to tell us what that was all about?" She asks as she puts the microphone in front of my mouth. 

"I would love to. Tonight, in the main event of SmackDown Live, I'm issuing an open challenge for the WWE Championship! So to quote one of the greatest of all time, if you want some, come get some!" I say with a smile on my face as I walk away from Renee and the camera man. I turn the corner and have Charlotte right in my face.

"YOU KISSED CARMELLA?" She screams angrily. I try to explain myself but she doesn't seem to understand. She's visibly furious, so I think I'm just going to give her some time to think about it.

My music fills the arena as the crowd chants "AJ Styles! AJ Styles! AJ Styles!" This crowd is electric. I enter the ring and wait for my opponent to come down to the ring. Suddenly I feel somebody hit me with a diamond cutter, also known as the RKO.

"Ring the damn bell!" I hear Randy Orton scream at the ref. The ref does as he's told and signals for the bell, signalling the start of the match. I'm trying desperately to get back to my feet. I'm on my hands and knees, but I hear Randy running towards me from the corner and before I can react, he kicks me right in the skull, which knocks me out cold. I wake up a few seconds later, flat on my back in the middle of the ring, Randy's music blaring through the arena, and the words I never thought I'd hear. "Ladies and gentlemen, the new WWE Champion, Randy Orton!" I feel myself being pulled out of the ring. I fall to the floor and look up to see Charlotte kneeling down beside me with a concerned look on her face.

"I'm sorry that I yelled at you." She says, with a look of sadness spread across her face.

"It's okay." I say and she helps me to the back.
