Carter Reid, Son of Hermes, Demigod Luck

Ever since I went on the so-called side of demigod luck, I've been feeling more powerful. I defeated my friend Cinnamon the day in sword fighting, something she's always won, before she was killed... Olivia said she and Mon went out for a walk and chat together when one of the newer monsters came. Olivia described it as a big snake made out of leaves and branches. Mon always loved snakes too, "How ironic," she would've said. "I'm killed by the one thing I love most." I loved her too, but we stopped talking when we had our big fight.

Cinnamon told me that one day she wouldn't be around because of something I would do. I didn't believe her at first but this has to be what she meant. Mon's dead now and never coming back, I hope she's achieved Elysium though. She was such a good friend of mine and to everyone else, Mon never did anything that would hurt someone else unless they deserved it.

"Oi! Captain Courageous!!" Kaiden called out for me, which is surprising, he doesn't even like me.

"Yes Kaiden? Is there something wrong?" I stood up and shook off my thoughts, they said I wouldn't need those anymore because thoughts can hold you back.

"We're putting you on guard duty, we need more people protecting the barrier as more monsters seemed to have shown up over night. And, I sent in the recommendation for you to be on duty. You're a good kid, a good protector, and an amazing avenger." His eyes twinkled for some reason or another at the last sentence, Kaiden knew I loved Mon and knew that I wanted justice for her death; even if it meant I would be killing it each time it reformed until I die.

"Thank you, I won't let anyone be taken today. No one will go missing under my watch unless it's me." I put my hand over mt heart in a fist and bowed my head.

"I would certainly hope not, we need more people like you. Who's fatal flaw is blind loyalty." He responded and pushed me out of my cabin where we were talking.

I got ready for guard duty, armor, sword, helmet and such, all the things I would need before heading out to the protective barrier around camp. No one else was there which I thought was a bit weird but brushed it off. I just got put into guard duty and it's early in the morning, this should be normal. The night shift probably just went to sleep early.

I shrugged and started to scope out my area of forest. Nothing out of the usual so far, which doesn't seem very good to me. At this point I was begging for something to come out. I was purposely stomping loudly on leaves and sticks, I clinked my sword and shield together and shouted loud enough to get some attention.

After a long five minutes of nothing happening, I heard something move in the distance. So like any normal demigod, I ran towards it. It seemed to be getting farther away with each step I took; I thought it was because of how loud I was. That was when I had the brilliant idea of sneaking up on the thing I heard.

When I reached it, I was in a mix of awe and fear. The creature was tall and slim looking, with a silvery-bronzey sheen to it. Like it was made of metal, on its back were what looked like wings but made out of sword blades for whatever reason. Parts of its forearms and calves were on fire and melting partially to the ground, giving it's limbs a waxy appearance. From what I could see, its face was a flat oval with a melted mouth but I couldn't see its eyes. It was on the ground weeping with a hooded-cloak of chain mail covering it.

Under the flaming, metal creature, there was a smaller one with swords and arrows sticking out of it, they were covered in..... silver-colored blood. It was one of the monsters! But it was weeping for one of its fallen kind? The one that was dead or dying was a simple one. It looked like a small wolf pup with dark brown fur and hazel eyes... My friend Micheal went missing a few weeks ago, said to have been killed by a wolf-like monster. Could this be the monster that killed him?

While I was staring I saw the creature mumble something before a portal opened underneath the creature. No! I missed my chance to avenge Micheal! That wouldn't stop me from getting revenge on the creature that helped that monster!!

I ran towards the creature with my sword held up high and not caring if I made any noise. I  swung my sword in a high arc heading towards the thing's back when it caught my sword. With its bare hand. It turned towards me as a what I now realize is as a she. Her eyes were a cross between a pale pinkish red and a fiery orange with what looked like fractures in them. They gazed over me blankly before some sort of  recognition I'm guessing took over.

"Carter Reid, the 78th son of Hermes, 36th to make it to camp, you shouldn't have done that." She told me.

The creature ripped the sword out of my hands and broke it in two, which should be impossible. My sword was forged by one of the cyclops under the ocean ruled over by Poseidon! It shouldn't be broken in two by some measly monster!

"T-that's impossible!" I stuttered again, this time more prominent in my sentence of two words.

"Nothing is impossible just as anything is possible. So it is not impossible that I'll be taking you away now, but it is also possible I won't. My kin though will be much safer without your kind around so I won't take you. But my kin might to see if they can defeat them." It spoke in gibberish before disappearing in a dark blue and black portal of it's own creation.

Suddenly, multiple figures darted out of the woods with all sorts of bodies. I saw some wolves, reptiles, bird/harpy things and other humanoids similar to the creature I first saw. The figures saw blood on the ground and launched their selves at him. One snatched him up it it's wings and flew into a blueish green portal.

It was at this moment, I knew, I fucked up. I fucked up big time, worse than when I had a 'Who could yell PENIS across the boat the loudest' competition. Even worse than when I shouted "Fuck your chicken strips!" at the nymphs who cooked our food, they were quite sensitive about that subject it seemed. So it seems Tyche was not on my side today of all the things she should be on my side for.
