Chapter 1: Tessa's Discovery

It was June of 1876. Tessa Gray was spending her usual hours within the library of the London Institute when Will Herondale walked in.

"Jem just had another blood coughing fit. I'm starting to worry about him even though this has been going on since he was 11." Will tells Tessa.

Tessa sighs. When James Carstairs (Jem) was 11 years old, he lived in Beijing with his mom and dad. Both of them were Shadowhunters. His mother decided to take upon herself to burn down a demon's nest where children in the area were

being murdered. When the demon returned to find its offspring murdered, it went after Jem's mother. Jem was tortured for weeks in front of his parents. Injections of demon blood that caused him to be very sick. While in a hallucination , the demon had murdered both parents. Jem awoke being an orphan. He was sent to London because his father was an Englishman. There, the Silent Brothers removed as much of the demon poison. But , it was too great of a demon and the Silent Brothers couldnt remove all the demon poison. Jem has been slowly dying ever since.

The only way he stays alive, is by takimg more and more demon blood because thats the way to keep him strong.

"Will?!"Tessa asked.

"Yes?" Will replies.

"I want you to come here! Now! Look!" Tessa beckons him over.

Will hurries over and looks at the open page in front of Tessa.

Its a spell book, Will notices.

"Neferes Remo! It's a time travelimg spell! Tessa almost yells.

"And..."

"Meaning we can go into the future, brimg back more experienced Shadowhunters and Silent Brothers and see if they know how to remove the rest of the demon blood! Tessa exclaims.

"Tessa your a genius!" Will says back.

"The only problem is I think we need to pay our friend Magnus Bane a visit."
