Clapping. I hear a lot of clapping. Nervousness. I feel a lot of nervousness. I try to catch the eye of my father's but he is to busy talking to the crowd. I drown him out and focus on being calm and collected.

"Now I would like to call up on stage Mona Madden, your new CEO, to give her acceptance speech."

I slowly drown out everyone, everything. The clapping, the talking, the whispers. Everything.

I walk on to the stage with my head held up high my eyes sharp.

This is it, Mona. This is it. This is what you worked for.

I take a deep breath, and I slowly began.

Flashback

Who are you? I ask in anger.

The man looks at me with confusion but his eyes soften immediately.

"I found you on a park bench, you were suffering from hypothermia, would you like to tell me what's going on?"

I look afar and my eyes water I slowly cover my eyes and sob loudly.

I finally left. And I almost died.

I can feel someone's presence near me and suddenly my body was engulfed into warm hands

"Its okay kiddo, just let it out."

I finally calmed down and let myself regulate my breath.

"I live in the orphanage of Mother Mary, it was a horrible place, horrible. They abused me so much and when the priest tried to touch me inappropriately, I took a knife and stabbed.

"I killed someone, I killed the priest, I'm a murder."

I tried pushing the man away but instead, I fall back.

"Get away I'm a murderer."

The man slowly holds my hand and coax me to look at him, he gently whispers soothing words to me."

"Are you going to take me to the police now."

A small smile played his lips.

"I will solve everything with the law but I have a proposition for you."

I look up meeting his eyes.

"You can go to another foster home or I could adopt you and you could be my daughter."

And for the first time in 10 years, I cried. I cried happy tears.

I had a father.
