Sitting on a cliff edge guard rail looking over the city below me as the sun sets behind the horizon. As the sun sets, only the lights of the city are there to comfort me. Not a single sound other than my breath was audible. Cutting through the tranquility of m the silence a car parks behind me. Getting out is a man in tears. Letting himself roll out of his sedan, he quietly puts a piece of paper underneath his windshield wiper. After walking towards the guard rail and climbing over it, he looks at me with a look as if to say “I’m sorry”. Then jumped. Stunned I stood up watching him fall into the darkness below. What do I do? Could I do anything? Could I have stopped him? Would I have stopped him? I didn’t know him. Did that matter? I guess not anymore. Walking away from the edge I notice the paper he left behind. Upon opening it, a note is revealed.

‘Dear Malinda,

I know I messed up and I know you and Henry deserve better, that's why I’m taking a small hiatus of sorts. Trust me it’s better this way without me in the picture.’

love ,

John

Not saying a word I walked down the road and ever told anyone about the events that took place that night.
