My phone rings and I answer it knowing it is Georgie from the ring tone.

What's up Georgie I am just leaving the tattoo shop.

Have you seen the news?

No why?

There was a fire down town in an old warehouse. Four fire fighters injured and one missing. They aren't releasing names, but I know that you are really close to some of the guys.

Fuck thanks for calling Georgie. I am going to make some phone calls. I step outside and with shaking hands I dial Marco's number. It goes straight to voice mail. I dial my friend at the news station hoping that maybe she has some names for me. Shelby do you know who it was I say when she answers her phone.

Tanner is one of the ones who were injured. You don't know the other three they were from another station. They aren't releasing the name of the missing fire fighter yet. I know that Tanner is at St. Mary being treated for his injuries.

Thanks Shelby. I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Please let everyone be okay. I flag down a cab and tell him to head to St.MaryHospital. We make it is fifteen minutes and I head to the E.R. waiting room. I spot Levi and I head straight for him. Levi?

Savannah we don't know anything yet. Tanner is in surgery.

Who is the missing fireman?

Damn it Savannah it's Marco. There is no way that he made it. The building collapsed on him.

I try to swallow against the lump in my throat. I don't even notice how bad I am shaking until Levi pulls me into his arms holding me tightly.

I know how close the two of you were. I am so sorry Savannah. Marco was the best damn fire fighter I have ever met.

Is there anything that I can do?

No sit with us until we hear word on Tanner. He has a huge crush on you did you know that?

He's so shy I didn't realize. I am too old for him and my future is not even guaranteed.

You are too stubborn to die and age is just a number.

Be sure to let me know when the memorial service is going to be.

We will do you think that you can put together a picture collage for the service. I know that you take more than just the pictures that make it into the calendar.

I will see what I can find. Would anyone like some coffee or something to drink out of one of the machines? They have a pretty decent coffee shop near here. How long has it been since any of you have eaten?

Too long coffee and some sandwiches sound really good.

I will be back soon. I head to the nearby coffee shop that thankfully serves really good sandwiches. About thirty minutes later I come back loaded down with sandwiches and coffees for everyone. I silently pass them out to the tired grieving firemen. A couple of them try to give me a small smile. We sit in silence waiting for the doctor to bring us some kind of news.

We have been sitting for maybe forty five minutes when a tired looking doctor comes into the waiting room. Tanner Richland.

Eight firemen and me stand up surrounding the doctor waiting on him to speak.

We had to put screws in his left shoulder and his right leg was completely shattered so we replaced it with a metal rod. He will never be able to be a fire fighter again, but he will live. He also sustained a fairly severe concussion. He is in the recovery room right now. We will transfer him into a private room shortly and then he will be allowed visitors.

Could we be the ones to tell him the extent of his injuries?

I will be sure to let all the nurses know. Tomorrow will be best to tell him.

I have an appointment in thirty minutes. I will come by tomorrow and visit Tanner.

Wear a naughty nurse uniform it would help make his recovery so much sweeter.

How about not I say laughing before leaving everyone with a hug. I make it back to my studio just in time for Simon to get there. He agreed to pose for some pictures to go in my portfolio.
