Synesthesia is a neurological condition that includes, but isn't limited to, the stimulation of certain senses when other senses are activated. For example, a synesthete might always see purple in the air when they hear a clarinet. Some synesthetes actually see the color, which is called projecting, and some just imagine it or associate the color with the sound. This "cross between senses" can happen with any of the five senses, and also other things such as pain, letters/numbers, and many others. The most common form of synesthesia is grapheme-color, which is when a synesthete associates a color with each of the letters of the alphabet or numbers.
