FRENEMY [a short story version]

   Have you ever fallen for a close friend or that someone in your circle of friends? Well, I guess this is just close at hand. Let me tell you about a story of two junior high students who has funny and complicated status.

For a teenage girl like ivy, who have experienced a lot of negative scenarios at her previous schools had never even really expected to have a crush on her friend, brad.

He is one of her close guy friends at class and he seems arrogant at first, but when the bond of their peers. Ivy’s two close girlfriends knew about her little secret admiration. However, when she had a fight with one of them, she exposed it to the whole class... including brad!

Ever since, the both of them shared awkwardness especially that they were seatmates and it was truly weird whenever they have such little gatherings at their group. It was hard for her that it came a point where she felt so shy to show herself at their class due to the shame when the truth was spread around.

From that moment on, she has tried to force herself to erase her feelings for brad. It was of course; indeed very difficult for ivy because she didn’t even knew that all the while at the process of forcing to forget is the true hidden feeling in her HEART. Truly it was falling in love while being hurt...but she just went with the flow as time goes by.

And as it literally passed, time was rarely even noticed as she began to admire and fall for another boy which was their other classmate too. He was a lot different to brad because although brad is somehow arrogant and confident, he is still nice, friendly, good-looking, intelligent, family-oriented and God-fearing. Unlike that numb boy who seems to always make ivy’s junior year miserable. She had a very long time falling in and out of love with this naughty-numb guy and always ended up broken hearted.

When New Year came, ivy swore to herself to finally forget that numb boy. Hence, it wasn’t granted too strong due to her uncontrolled feelings. Meanwhile, both ivy and brad did not notice that they have regained their friendship back and even made such closeness through time. So even though they had quarrels at times, brad always apologizes and ivy makes him smile every time she does mischievous actions and childish reactions. They somehow treated themselves as close pals even if they have no label in their friendship.

Everyone was full of excitement and gladness when their junior prom came. The night was indeed very magical and so wonderful. And even though she has felt negativity inside her because of that numb boy, her friends has helped her out through the whole night to keep her company. When she finally saw brad ... he was very handsome and it tickled somewhere inside of her. Even if the numb boy was her first dance (and indeed very memorable-in a bad way), she was truly overwhelmed to dance with brad twice and a matter of fact, he was her last dance!

Valentine’s Day was a usual scare for her bitterness for she is NBSB (short for No Boyfriend since Birth) but it was a great day for she finally got over that numb boy. Eventually, she then had a minor crush to a guy in the highest class and the weird thing is brad was into them. Well, as he doesn’t know, while ivy was crushing on that guy, he was still silently in her heart. Summer was about to come which means, school year was also about to end. And as last-minute bonding were held in every group of friends they have, she realized that no matter what she does, whether she force herself to forget or replace him, he is still the one... who made her heart skip a beat.

From then on, she just went with the flow and continued their normal routine, and still became very alright. The reason why she doesn’t want him to know her true feelings to brad is to prevent the awkwardness of their friendship just like before, so she doesn’t want to destroy the friendship they’ve already made.

And of course, all things must come to an end, so as their school year finished, she has started to miss her friends and was longing for the times she was with brad. Her whole summer vacation was spent with tears of reminiscing all the moments they both had and the memories they made that she’d surely cherish and treasure most through years to come that inside her heart would still remain. And every time they would meet, everything is nothing but complicated. Although she has tried to delete and ignore the feeling, she has nothing much more left to do but hold on because letting go was really a bad idea. Ivy has tried several times to move on just accept the fact that they’ll only be friends, but whether he’s there or not, she did everything and all she could effort to let go.

Her love is very endless and pure for him because even if he would like other girls or have crushes again, she’d be his friend still supporting as always and will be happy when he is. The only thing she desires is to be with him again... each day and each night she prays to God about him. That she’ll be content that although they’ll be separated, at least, she would be able to see him in senior year.
