"Ryder?" I squeaked after getting a good look at his face, my heart racing

"Kate? What's wrong?" Concern etched on his face as he held me

"Someone.. Someone was running after me" I say shakily looking over my shoulder holding him tight. He took a look around as I held on to him

"Eh.. How about I walk you home?"

"That would be great" I thank him shakily.
He held my hand as we walked not saying a single word. Strangely, the walk back was longer than it had ever been.
We finally got to my house after what seemed to be hours. I thanked him and rushed in, running straight to my room. Last thing I wanted was for my family to see the fear on my face.
I fell asleep with the thought of what could have happened if Ryder wasn't near.

The next day Ryder wasn't in school and I was almost dead with worry, it took everything in me not to go check up on him. He wasn't there the next two days either and this time I've decided to do something.

After lunch, I waited for Smith, Ryder hung out with him most times so I thought he was the best option. I silently waited as he chatted with his friends, he waved at them and made his way down to his class and I followed.

"Smith" I tapped his denim cladded shoulder

"Hmm" he turned around his right brow raised

"Hi" I gave a closed lipped smile with a little wave

"Hello Kate" 

"You know me" I blunted surprised

"Of course" he chuckled leaning against the wall

"Is there a reason you stopped me? No offence, I would love to chat but I don't want to be late for my class"

"Oh right! I'm sorry, I haven't seen Ryder for a few days and I was wondering if he is alright"

"He is"  he replies curtly with a nod

Well, okay then. What a way assure me

"Could I have his number?" I ask putting a strand of hair behind my ear slightly nervous, Smith only laughed it out then gave me. I thanked him and waved back before making it to my class which I was already late for. I decided to text him once I was home.

I sighed as I opened the door, I knew I was to be alone again. Mum is at the hospital doing what surgeons do and Dad, he would be at his firm half way around the world while Jake at college. So yes, I am home alone again. I was so tempted to slam the door to let go of some of my frustration but I didn't.

Removing my shoes, I left them on the floor with my bag and headed for the kitchen. Our house is pretty big, we could afford it since my parents worked pretty hard

Hard enough to forget me, I thought bitterly as I opened the newly stocked fridge ready to raid it. Taking out some pasta, I decided on it. I microwaved it, poured it in a plate, grabbed a fork and headed for the living room.

I got comfortable and began to eat trying to decide on what to watch. I flipped through channels as my phone lit up.

You going for Ryder's party right? - Ashley

Am I? I haven't even thought of it after that night, I still didn't even know if he is alright.

If you are, I and the girls are going dress shopping tomorrow by 2am, join us ;-) - Ashley

It'll be fun I guess. Maybe it's time to hit Ryder up. I chickened out after writing an entire paragraph asking if he was okay.

"Ughh" I groaned setting my phone down. I did the dishes still thinking of what to write, I didn't want to come off as clingy

"Woman up Kate! You can do this!" I grabbed my phone

I began to count biting my lower lip nervously, what if he doesn't replies? I should have introduced my self

Hey - Ryder

I sighed in relief

How are you doing? I didn't see you in school - Kate

Nah, too needy, I went to press clean but I hit send

"Ahh" I yelled in misery as I face palmed

Kate? - Ryder
Okay then

How do you know that? - Kate

Smith said something about you asking - Ryder

"Snitch" I said under my breath

Oh okay, I never thanked you for the other night - Kate

I believe you did, more than once - Ryder

I don't believe I expressed how grateful I was -I am that you were there - Kate

You could do that at my party tomorrow ;-)  - Ryder

I guess I will :-)  - Kate
