Chapter Four
"An unexpected revelation "*Luna's POV*
I glanced over at the clock and noticed it was almost 4 o'clock. Mother should be finished with the meeting by now, perhaps I should go get Frisk before I go.
As I began to leave, Jenna, mother's personal maid, had arrived,
"Your highness, the queen has wished for you to appear in the courtyard garden. May I escort you?"
I gently shook my head,"Thank you, but I would like to visit the younger princess before I make my way there. Tell the queen the wait won't be long. I am sure to be there in a moments time."
"As you with you highness. I will certainly make the queen aware. May I be excused?"
I simply nodded, she bowed deeply and left.
I followed her out and made my way to Frisk's room.It was certainly a very long stride. Her room was in the sector across from mine, but was still a long way.
When I arrived at her door, I knocked calling out her name. But no response. Again and again I knocked a little harder. Still.... No response. I assumed she was fast asleep from a busy day and left a message through her maid.I do hope she hasn't worn her self out..
I picked up my pace and head to the back of the palace where the garden was.
When I arrived I saw mother sitting at the tea table in the middle of the garden. She greeted me with a weak smile. I knew the meeting would have stressed her out.
Perhaps I shouldn't ask her now, her mood would worsen. But we did ask her to come here, and she rarely has any time to spare these days.
I took a seat, and she gestured for the maids to leave. And spoke right after,
"Well... What is it you wanted to talk to me about? Oh! Don't tell me..... You got your sister to eat fish??!"
I giggled and shoke my head.
"Well that would have been nice.... But you know how Frisk is mother, she would rather join the Underlasse armies that digest some fish."She sighed and replied,
"Well, that's ture indeed. So, the real reason why you are here? Oh and where is Frisk? Wasn't she accompanying us too?"
I replied, "Ah right! She seemed to have had a long day. So she has retired for the evening."
"That's fine with me. Now go on. I'm all ears"Mother has always been very casual around us, well we are the only family she has left. Perhaps she doesn't want to push formalities on us too soon.
But I really don't know how to approach her with some thing as absurd as this! I wish Frisk were here...."Well? What's wrong dear?"
Mother is very consoling but I just... I can't seem to...
I took a deep breath several times to calm myself.
Well here goes nothing,"Well..... Frisk and I- (but mostly Frisk), have wondered about something for a while and.... I-I don't want to bother you too much with it... And it even might upset you, but that's not really clear though and-"
I was panicking.. It wouldn't have come out right at this rate. But luckily mother had stopped me just before.
"My, my.... Dear, why are you so tense? Was your day very stressful? Take a few sips of your tea and relax. I do have to say, it was worth it to come down here and try some of Jayne's new brews. They are simply delightful!"
Of course.... Mother wanted to try out Jayne's new brew... Perhaps I should try some too then..
I slowly lifted the tea cup and took a sip.The warm tea filled my mouth, with a sweet cinnamon flavour accompanied with the tint of gingerbread lingering in the aftertaste. Truly the work of a true master tea connoisseur. My muscles immeadiatly begin to loosen up and I can't help but slightly lean toward the back of my chair. Unbelievably..... I was practically slouching!! Something I've never found myself to do, until today.
After I returned from my subconscious thoughts, I saw mother throwing a rather cheeky look at me,
"Sooo???? Have you seen a glimpse of heaven???"
I quickly strained my posture and replied in a formal but defeated tone,
"It was quite delightful indeed... The blend of cinnamon and gingerbread is quite exquisite. I most unfortunately hate to admit this.... But, you are definitely right with your claim..."
She breaks into a series of giggles and chuckles, but somehow looking as graceful as ever.
After she calmed down, she had to bring back my tensions with the words that followed," Dear, you know you still haven't brought up the real purpose you had requested to meet me for. Don't hesitate to ask anything, there's nothing to lose from this is there?"
I had no other choice.... No excuses to pull out..... I had to ask her.....
If she has gotten this serious with me now, she'll not consider any other diversion...
Should I really do this?.....
Self-doubt clouded my clarity. I could end up being blunt or direct. Perhaps even hurt her...
But at he end of the day... It's simply a doubt we wished to know, it shouldn't hurt to ask right?
Well, I can't back out now, though I hope Frisk shows up eventually. I would really appreciate it.
I was hesitant but I spoke fluently,"Mother... Frisk and I had a revelation, the previous evening."
I paused and studied her face -stern and attentive-
"It was quite out of the blue actually... Frisk had mentioned a very curious claim to me... It's about...How you have never told us why.... Why you have kept us here.. Inside these walls... Regardless of the number of times Frisk had asked about father you had never given us a straight answer... We hoped you would at least enlighten us with a reason regarding this.... I know its absurd and a very demanding question... But it's something we wish to know, to understand........."
Mother was still...... Her chest slowly began rising and falling faster than normal.... But her expression was one I never wanted to witness again.....
I was worried..,
"Mother?....... Mother, is something wrong!??..... Mother!?!"
