Chapter 3: Insolence

"Hey! New guy!" Mark called as Reizel and Etrama approached the school. Etrama had already gone out and gotten Reizel his necessary materials. Reizel looked up uninterestedly. His gaze focused on Mark before turning away. "Etrama! You were here, too?"

Etrama nodded in reply, a small smile fixing itself on his lips. "Reizel and I go way back."

"Mark!" a happy voice sounded. Mark turned and found himself being tackled by Heather. "And... Reizel," she said after Mark had untangled himself. "And Etrama!" Heather ground a toe of her shoes into the cement of the sidewalk nervously.

Etrama had always given her the creeps-in a non-creepy way. It was almost like dealing with an adult when it came to Etrama; he never seemed to be shocked by anything, he was calm and collected. The obvious youth in Etrama's features was the only way to tell.

"Heather."

"Hey guys!" another voice sounded.

"Kit!" Mark and Heather said in unison. They burst out laughing to Remmy's annoyance. They stopped when they noticed Reizel's stony gaze.

It was an awkward moment when the five lapsed into silence. They came into full view of the school.

"The bell's about to ring!" Remmy said as he checked his watch. They quickened their pace to a light jog, all except Reizel. He simply took longer steps and hastened his walk. They had just reached their class when the bell rang. They hurried inside, and to their gratitude, the teacher wasn't there.

"Hey, you're Reizel, right?" a gruff voice said from behind where Reizel sat. Reizel didn't answer but nodded slightly. There was a sigh. "Look at someone when they're talking to you!" But Reizel didn't move. "Hey!"

"Leave Reizel alone, Wayne," a female voice said in an annoyed tone from beside him.

"You aren't--"

"I said so!"

"But..." Wayne gritted his teeth in anger but sat still. He knew that angering Angela would bring on her boyfriend's fist as well. Angela Wells wasn't someone you would mess with.

"Anyway," Angela said, turning to Reizel who sat stonily. "What's your name?"

"... Reizel."

"Oh! That's a... nice name!" she replied hesitantly, not knowing exactly what to say. She swished her long blonde hair, causing a berry scent to waft around. Reizel wrinkled his nose slightly in disgust.

Angela set it so it cascaded down her shoulders. She put a hand on her hip. "Well, I'll see you some other time!" She walked quickly away but not before shooting an annoyed glance at Wayne.

"Class!" The teacher had finally come, almost five minutes after the bell. "Please be seated."

"HUK!"

Carson grabbed the man's throat and started to strangle him. R-19 watched from the shadows as his boss interrogated one of the suspects. He already knew that this wasn't him.

For a person to be able to create an infected being, one had to be first more than human, which this man clearly was.

"Can't-breathe," he gasped out but this only caused Carson to grip his hands around his neck even tighter.

"Tell me now! Did you create the infected?!" His eyes seemed to pop out of its sockets as he shook the man back and forth.

"He isn't going to talk if you strangle him." R-19 stepped out from his hiding place. He placed a steady hand on Carson's shaking ones. "Let him go."
