Nano's Doubts

A/N: Sorry for typos, English is not my first language. I'm learning though...hopefully.

He wore that hat again today. Of all the hats he had obtained, he chose that one. He grinned like an absolute dork as he put it on, the blue cloth standing almost proudly atop his messy blond hair. He went back to work after changing it, not after telling me if I wanted to change mine. I could care less about these hats sometimes, in fact, it seemed foolish to be downed by a petty thing. But that fact didn't change what I'm feeling right now. The thought was annoying me, provoking in some way.

Dark mages were also becoming frequent in our parts. Those black hooded figures would attack at any time of the day. Some would even attack at night, cheeky buggers. They haven't dealt that much of a damage though. Me and Lalna would just stomp over them but their numbers grow with every attempt. It wouldn't be too long before they managed to pose a bigger threat. Lalna being Lalna, he didn't seemed bothered by all of this. He's reckless as always.

"Hey Nano." he calls out from the stairs. I snapped out of my thoughts and sat up from my bed. His goofy face just poking out of the floor. "Come! I have something to show you."

He's grinning madly as he scurried downstairs. I stood up, grabbed my gear from my bedside table and followed. Hopefully, this isn't one of those crazy ideas of his. Well, the crazier ones, anything Lalna involved tends to be crazy anyways.

He was at the door practically bouncing with enthusiasm, that silly smile still painted on his dorky face. "Ready to go?"

"Where exactly are we going?" I ask. Better to ask now than later, especially if you're living with a mad scientist.

"It's a surprise. Now come on, we have quite a lot ahead of us." He holds out his hand. I hesitantly took it and we walked to where our Twilight portal is. He went in first, saying that he'll check if it was all clear which is pretty nice of him. Somehow, I always get attacked by something every time I went through. He popped back again. It was all clear.

The Twilight Forest is such a gorgeous and magical place, except the dark and forest biome where our portal is which frankly sucks because monsters usually spawn under the thick canopy. We quickly crossed the river and away from the dark spooky biome.

"So, you gonna tell me where we're going yet?" I ask as we walked. We could just use our jet-pack-glider system to get to wherever place he's leading me but for some reason Lalna insisted. It was good to have a stroll for once, he says.

"Nope, I'll tell you when we get there." Solid as a wall, there was no getting answers past him. Sighing, I continued to walk in pace with him in silence.

It was turning out to be a peaceful walk, not a single hostile mob was around. Little birds of all sorts of colors were perched at the branches, merrily chirping on a nice cloudy afternoon. The woodland critters just resting under the shade of trees.

It went on until I felt his hand reach for mine. My hand flinched and his stopped. We halted. I looked down at my feet, avoiding his gaze.

"I..." I try to form words but they all went away. I was dumbfounded. I looked up slightly only to meet his eyes. "Lalna, I..."

"I'm sorry if I..uh..." Scratching his head, his eyes looked all around 'cept straight to mine. He was fumbling with his words too.

"It's fine. Let's just go to where you wanted to." He nodded yet the spark of enthusiasm was gone. I felt sad, like a thief that took something very important right in front of his eyes.

"Yeah." He walked off ahead. I could only stare at him as I follow him from a distance. I stared at the ever changing colored grass as we walk, lost in the depths of my thoughts. Lomadia couldn't be right. He's my teacher, my master, my partner...He's my friend. Lalna wouldn't betray me. He isn't like Sjin. He's better, leagues better than the farmer. He would never.

Lomadia's words echoed in my ears, words from a few months back still clear as day. "It would be best to be on your guard, deary. I've seen what capabilities he could do. Better for you to act before he could. Permanently if presented with a chance." Her tone was somber and her eyes, it tried to hide any emotion I looked up slightly. His back was still turned, the ends of his coat fluttering with the gentle breeze, seemingly in a daze as well. It showed itself at point blank. It was the perfect opportunity.

The Master Sword was within reach in my inventory. It would be swift and easy. My heartbeat upped its pace by multiple degrees. My fluxed hands were shaky. The flux gave off a glow, a vibe of some sort. It was not a good one by the looks of it. My breathing was beginning to falter, my body felt like tons.

"Nano?" Lalna's voice came. I saw him hurry over by my side, his eyes full of concern. He carefully supported me to lean on a tree to rest. He asked and asked if there was something wrong or if something hurts but I couldn't respond. I couldn't even look him straight on. We stopped there for a few minutes, not a single word was spoken. I tried to speak yet my mouth went dry.

He broke the ice. "Nano, if I knew you weren't feeling good we could have gone on another day." He had a caring smile grazing his lips. He looked as goofy as his usual self.

"N-no" I barely stutter my words out "I'm fine, really I am. Let's just go." Lalna didn't looked convinced in the slightest. "What? I can handle it. I just got tired, we walked pretty far to be honest." Half lied, but lied still.

"Oh." He scratched the back of his head, embarrassed. "Sorry."

"No prob, Teach." I gave him a weak smile, at the middle of being real or not. "Should we go?" I dusted my attire and stood straight up.

"Yeah. We should. It's not that far from here now." He beamed as he held out his hand again. I looked at it for a moment before taking it. His gloved hand closes tightly on mine as we started walking. I want to return the tightness of his grip but my hand felt so weak.
