My phone began to ring, and I groaned as I pulled my gaze away from the book I was reading. I looked at the caller ID and rolled my eyes. Of course Mom had to call me during my very special reading time. I thought to nobody but myself.

"Hello?" I spoke after answering the phone, pressing it against my ear. I placed my bookmark into my book and closed it, setting it down onto my dresser next to my bed.

"Hi honey. Are you at home?" She said loudly, as she always does on the phone. I could tell from other noises that she was in the car.

"Yeah. My friends were all busy so I stayed in today. What's up?" What I said was partly the truth. I don't actually have friends, but it's a Friday night so I assume people are busy on this night.

"Okay." She sighed, "Anyway. I'll be home in like, five minutes. I need to talk to you about something important. I just wanted to see if you were home." She spoke with her regular strict tone.

"Well now i'm concerned. Is something wrong?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. Usually my mom was never this hidden with important information. My mom is a very open and expressive person.

"Well, you could call it that. I'll just talk to you when I get home. I'm almost there" She said quickly, I can only imagine her waving her hand around and rolling her eyes.

"Okay mom." I chuckled. "See ya. Love you"

"See you Gray. Love you honey" She said before ending the call.

I sat on my bed for the next few minutes, wondering what could've possibly went wrong. Tons of thoughts crashed into my mind. It could be anything, did she lose her job? Did dad reach out to her again? Or worse... did she figure out my sexuali-

"Gray i'm back!" My mom shouted from downstairs, followed by the door shutting. I took a deep breath and walked downstairs.

"Okay tell me what's wrong" I said quickly. My hands were shaky and my heartbeat was going at a fast rate. Stop panicking it's probably nothing.

"Jesus, sit down honey. You're shaking." She sighed and put her hands on my shoulder, guiding me to a chair at our dinner table. I sat down and groaned, "Mom I'm not 15 anymore, I can handle myself."

She sighed and folded her arms. "Gray..." she trailed off with a sigh. I frowned, this was obviously very serious. "You remember your old best friend Alexander?"

My frown stayed on my face. I forced a scowl onto my face. Alexander and I had a bad... friend breakup, you could call it.

"What about him?" I said, ignorance clear in my voice. I didn't like bringing him up. I guess you could say I've shoved him and our memories into the back of my brain.

"Listen Grayson, I don't know what happened between the two of you, but you need to get over it. His dad recently reached out to me. He lost his job and was evicted, with no place to stay..." she trailed off, looking around the kitchen. Looking anywhere but at me.

I stood up, my eyes wide. "Don't tell me him and Alex are staying with us?! I haven't seen him in two years! I haven't even talked to him after he moved away without anything as simple as a goodbye." I said angrily, because I was furious. Memories came flooding into my brain and they just made me angry. Angry at myself. Things could've been different if it weren't for me.

"Grayson, honey, please calm down" My mom pleaded, placing her hands back onto my shoulder. I frowned and took a deep breath. I don't know if I can see him after two years. After our fight, it's too much.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this sooner, I just didn't know how. But...tomorrow him and his dad are going to come stay for a few weeks. Maybe months, who knows. As long as he needs until he finds a job and a place to stay." She said calmly. I admired her for that, she's always calm in crazy situations.

I sighed and held my head down, fighting every single tear that was trying its hardest to escape. "Okay." I mumbled. "Wait" I looked back up, my eyes widening.

"We only have three bedrooms." I said confused. Where would they both be staying? Would my mom share a room with his dad...ew.

"Jonathan will get stay in the guest bedroom. He's an adult and deserves his own room. And Alex...he'll be staying in your room honey."

It felt like somebody just punched me in the chest. I'm going to be sharing a room with my old friend, who definitely hates me. This is a disaster.
