So since its getting close to July 4th, I figured Id tell you a story about the 4th of July at my house when I was 11. To be completely honest, it was my first and last experience with pop its. Well, at least when I'm around my brothers.

So it was July 3rd, and my mom had a big party planned for July 4th at our house with family and friends, so she was in the kitchen getting goody bags ready to give to the kids. While she was doing that, I was outside standing on the driveway getting pop its thrown at me by Mark. He had stolen my sparklers and pop its from my bag of fireworks, and was throwing pop its at me! He threw one and it hit my shin,
    "Ow! STOP!"

He just laughed. Every time Id run up to him and take away the box of pop its, he'd punch my side and push me back in front of him. Every time Id try to run away, he'd grab me, punch my back, and push me back in the middle of the drive way. While he was throwing pop its at me, Donnie came outside, and saw what was happening, and yelled to Mark, "Hey aim for her ankles!"

Mark said, "Like this?"

Then he threw a pop it at my ankles, and it landed on my foot and popped.  I made an angry face at Donnie and said, "Shut up!"

He just laughed and said, "Hey give me a box Marky."

Mark stopped for a minute and went to get another box. While he did, I ran to the back door. I was turning the knob when Bob came up behind me, and dragged me down the steps by the back of my shirt collar! I yelled, "Ma! Help! Bobbo let me go!"

He said, "Nah! I'm good."

When I got back down under the basketball hoop on the driveway, Donnie and Mark had their boxes of pop its ready, and Bob picked him up a box, and Mark yelled, "Ready! Aim! Fire!"

I got pegged with pop its. I yelled, "Ma!!!"

They all three laughed. Finally my mom came outside and said, "BOYS! Stop that this instant! All three of you grounded for a month!"

They all stopped, and I breathed heavily. I looked down at my feet and saw red marks all over. They stung too. I sighed. My mom said, "Mark! Take Lizzy and go buy me some flour and eggs down at Gretas please!"

Mark whined, "Ma!"

My mom said, "Now!"

My mom walked down the steps and handed the money to Mark, and then we started walking to Gretas Market. As we were walking down the driveway, Mark hit me in the back of the head. I said, "Ow! What was that for?"

Mark said, "For gettin me trouble!"

I rubbed the back of my head, and didnt say anything the rest of the way to Gretas. After we bought the eggs and flour, and as we starting walking out, I saw Nathan Richards, Marks best friend. Mark saw him too, and said, "Hey, Ski. Whats up?"

I followed him over there, and Nathan said, "Nothing much bro, nothing much."

Mark walked over to a bench and started talking to Nathan, and I just tagged along. They then started walking on the fountain heading towards an alley. I asked, "Hey, where are you going?"

Nathan turned around and said, "Some where you're not!"

Mark said, "Yeah stupid, go home."

I said, "But...what about Mom?"

Danny Shultz then jumped down off the fountain and said, "You know, there are about million ways that I can kill you with karate. Iya!"

Mark said, "Hey, lay off, no one kills her but me."

I smiled sarcastically at him and said, "Gee, thanks. Bye."

I walked home, and 20 minutes later, I was at the basketball goal in my driveway. I walked in the house and gave the groceries to my mom. When she saw I was alone, she asked, "Where's Mark?"

I said, "He's with Nathan and his goons. Going to an alley or something."

My mom said, "Lovely. Well, if he gets in trouble, tough noogies, hes staying where he ends up. I love him, but he needs to learn to come home when hes grounded for a month. I mean it doesnt start until tomorrow but still."

I shrugged my shoulders. That night Mark ended up coming home at like 2:00 in the morning. The next day, at about 4:00 p.m. people started showing up, and socializing. It actually went pretty well. I got to see a lot of people I hadnt seen in a while, and Bob, Donnie, and Mark actually behaved, and left me alone. After it got dark, everyone laid their blankets out, while Bob, Donnie, and Mark lit the fireworks, and ran back to their blanket before it went off so they could see it. The Fireworks were really pretty, plus it was fun watching Bob, Donnie, and Mark running back and forth to their blankets to see the fireworks.
