~Laurence's POV~

Just as I was about to step into the portal, I turn back to face this dimension's Aphmau for one last time.  Even though she may look like my Aphmau and even have the same name, she still acts different.  Sometimes I think I've fallen for her harder than I have for my Aphmau waiting back in my own dimension.

This Aphmau and I been through a lot together.  We've went on adventures (me dropping a few flirty remarks here and there), teased, laughed, joked, and lightheartedly quarreled together.  We literally saved the end of the universe together.  I don't think there could ever be a greater bond than that.  She's also a lot more... surprising than my Lady Aphmau.  Always asking me the weirdest things so easily as if she was asking me about the weather.  That's got to be my favorite thing about her.  Never predicable, always keeping me on my toes.

I dream of staying with her...

But I can't.

I have another world to go to, and as a loyal gaurd of Lady Aphmau, I shall protect her!  The people here have gone through all this trouble to help me get back to my world, and now it's my time to do my part.

I turn to examine Aphmau one last time and take in all her unique features: the scar left on her arm caused from the void burn, her sense in fashion, and the curve of her lips.

I start walking towards her, and soon the bittersweet expression on her face is slowly replaced by a confused and slightly hopeful one. I start getting closer to her than I probably should, the blush from her cheeks start to rise.

Once I'm standing in front of Aphmau, I take a moment to admire her calming brown eyes.  I let my arms loosely hang at her waist and embrace her in a much-needed hug. She delicately weaves her fingers through my hair and comforts me wordlessly.

Reluctantly, we pull apart to gaze into each other's eyes for a bit. Upon seeing an unwelcome tear on her face, I wipe it away gingerly with my thumb.

"I love you," she confessed to me in a fragile whisper.

While matching her tone, I grinned, "You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you to say that."

Yet again, she did what I love about her the most, and surprised me.  She jumped to her tiptoes, pulled me in, and pressed her soft lips against mine.

The kiss was short lived, but I don't think there's any duration that would let me be okay with breaking a kiss with her.

"I love you too," I say lightly as I press another kiss to her forehead.

I then start making my way to the portal again.

"Goodbye," she spoke through a stream of tears.

"Until we meet again, m'lady," I smiled lightly, the smile soon spreading lovingly onto Aphmau's face as well.

All in all, I go through the portal bitterly acknowledging that my last words to her can't be anything more than a false promise.
