"Your highness...we mustn't.."
Rin's breath stuttered, eyes drooping low as they sneaked around the old castle ruins, far away from the main fortress. He kept repeating those words over and over again, searching for a way to convince his King that what they were doing was an omen for bad luck. But his voice fell on deaf ears.
As much as he remembered since their first meeting, the King had always been stubborn. The era of his ruling began once he set his foot down and took over the throne. His peak happened when he conquered his enemies and put the flag of his Kingdom up on those high hills, where everybody could see who was their master. Now that he was here, hand clutching tightly onto Alexei's own, he almost felt like he was dreaming. The King he so dearly loved and looked up to had chose him as a vessel for mischief.Painful mischief.
They reached the highest peak of the ruins, after passing through underground catacombs and smelly dungeons. His orbs rose to the sky, the color of sunset painting the horizon and illuminating the last rays of the star that brought light to their world. Alexei would often have him sneak out, or he himself would come to his chambers, but this was the most dangerous they had ever gone. With guards everywhere and Queen's servants sniffing around, they risked this relationship and exposure of their malicious deed. Of their sin.
"I used to come here when I was still a prince. It gave me tranquility and a pleasant stutter in my chest."
Rin remained silent, observing the features of his beloved. Alexei, who was much older than Rin, always had the sharpest and most sculpted features a human could imagine. Some called him the Golden King for the color of his hair and the irises that blended with its tone. Some said he had the face and looks of an Angel, but a heart of a Devil who wouldn't hesitate in its decisions. They were wrong on many levels. He was a character you couldn't possibly picture with the title he wore. A cunning, elegant man with the kindest personality and most generous heart of all.
And here he was...loving a servant who was disloyal to his Queen."Rin...tomorrow, we shall have to stay brave."
He was brought back from his little trance, worried eyes cascading across the man's features. He knew what his highness was proposing, what was going to occur, but he was not prepared. Regret and guilt flooded his chest like a wave that crashed against the hard rocks. They were so careful, so careful...And yet here they were, preparing for judgement day.
Three days ago his Queen found out about their affair. The image of her beautiful face contorting into that of a pained expression was still engraved in his mind. His Queen, the woman that dragged him out of the mud, out of misery and offered him clothes, food, a place to stay and her precious trust. He had betrayed her in the worst way possible. It shattered his own heart into peaces. And when he heard her desperate cries and sobs, when he was excused from his daily chores as the head servant, as her butler, he saw the world go gray. The only color left in his heart was his one and only.
"We must remain strong and we mustn't give up."
Alexei's hands rested on top of Rin's shoulders. He held him firmly, at an arm's length, looking down at him with determined shine in his eyes. Rin's heart ached painfully, but it still swelled with love for this man. Alexei pulled him close afterwards, wrapping his strong arms around him and pressing him close to his chest. It was the only place that he felt safe and as if nothing could hurt him. As if the reality wasn't so cruel.
But it was.
He was a lowly servant, worthy of only living for his Queen and King. Alexei was the King, betrothed to his Queen and her touch only. He was no one, they were the symbol of peace. She was his diamond, a precious jewel he protects with his sole being. And yet...here they were. He nuzzled his face into the firm pecks of his lover, searching for warmth and comfort. The strong chest gave him support, arms that were around him reassured him that this would soon come to an end. That their suffering wouldn't last too long.
