It was my first girls night out since I found out that my boyfriend of five years, Stephen, had been cheating on me with a coworker. Apparently, he was sleeping with her for quite some time behind my back. It was obvious that something in our relationship had changed because he was homeless, but never once did the thought cross my mind that he could possibly be seeing someone else. I found out when I got off work early and came home to find them in our bed. Needless to say, I packed up and moved in with a friend until I was ready to get my own place.
Friday night, Catherine and I got all dressed up to go out. We would be checking out the newest, hottest nightclub in town. The place was packed so full, you'd swear they were paying people to party there. After dancing for over an hour, Catherine and I decided to get a drink. I was casually sipping on my mojito when she elbowed me and nodded her head toward the crowd of people just coming in. There was Stephen and he was arm in arm with the very same woman he cheated on me with. "Fuck.."
"Just ignore him Sharon. Don't allow him to spoil the night, fuck him! Better yet, drink up." She glanced around the room and then winked in my direction. "You know what you need?" Her giddy laugh accompanied her smiling face. "You should find a hot guy and have a little fun of your own."
"You know what, you're exactly right," I glanced over at Stephen and ordered a shot of tequila. I just needed a boost of liquid courage to get me motivated. The heat from the tequila burned all the way down my throat and I frowned, slamming the shot glass down onto the bar. "That's it, I'm kissing the next guy I see. Is it reckless?" I asked, grinning over at Catherine. "Fuck yes, but I don't care. Watch this.." I spun around and gripped the shirt of the man walking up behind me. Pressing my lips to his, I tried not to giggle as his big blue eyes bulged out. Of course, when I realized who he was, I panicked and took a step back. Holy hell he was handsome in person. He had the kind of drop dead good looks that stopped you in your tracks and took your breath away. Stuttering, I repeatedly apologized to him as Catherine elbowed me. "I.. um, I... I'm so sorry, I was stupidly trying to make my ex jealous. I... truly didn't... realize it was you. God, I'm so embarrassed." Turning to Catherine, I raised my voice, "For fucks sake stop elbowing me. I know who he is!"
Jared didn't even crack a smile, the serious look on his face as he stared at me intently, had me regretting what I had just done. "You do this often, shove your tongue down the throat of a stranger?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at me before skimming his eyes down and then back up my body.
Catherine's mouth dropped open in a half smile hearing his words. I giggled nervously. "Oh no, I'm terribly sorry. See, my ex over there," I pointed to Stephen, but Jared's eyes never moved from mine and the hardened look on his face never wavered. "His name is Stephen and he was my boyfriend for five years, but that slut he's with, that's the woman he cheated on me for. I was only attempting to make him jealous."
"And you just assumed that I'd go along with your devious, little plan?" Sighing, I adjusted the straps of my dress and glanced over to Catherine, who appeared as though she were going to throw up.
"I did apologize to you," I pointed out, feeling stupid and annoyed with his attitude.
"Yes, I heard you, but perhaps you would've been better received had you simply asked if I were okay with it beforehand. Maybe a hi, my name is.." He gestured to me with his hand and I noticed the partly peeled away black nail polish on his dainty fingers. "I'm sorry, what is your name? I'd just like to know, since we have now exchanged saliva."
What was it with this guy? I was willing to bet he didn't know half the names of the bimbos he had been with. "Seriously? My name is Sharon and I'm sorry to have bothered you, have a great night." I fumed, trying not that touch him in my furious attempt to escape. Sliding past him, he never moved an inch, forcing my body to press into his as the people surrounding us continued to party. I stormed toward the door, leaving him standing there with Catherine, who quickly spun around and rushed to keep up with me. "Asshole!" I couldn't stop myself from raising my voice as we stepped out into the cool night air. "Do you believe him?!" I paced back and forth, nearly falling over as the heel to one of my shoes got stuck in a crack in the concrete.
