"Hurry up, Azzy!"
Chara laughed as she ran through her mothers flowerbeds.
"No fair! Wait up, you got a head start!"
Chara didn't stop. Instead, she spun in a circle twice and let herself fall backward on to the beds of flowers.
She heard Azzys footsteps and heavy breathing get closer and closer. She closed her eyes, waiting.
"You...You cheated!" Asriel huffed in between breaths.
"You're just jealous." Chara smirked at her brother.
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
Asriel sighed as he laid next to her on the flower bed.
"Am not," he mumbled, and this time Chara didn't hear.
She was staring up at the hole she had fallen into to get here.
"Whatcha thinking about?" Azzy asked.
"...Nothin much." Even Chara could hear the lying edge in her own voice.
"Cmooon."
"Okay, okay. I'm...thinking about fate."
"Fate? Like destiny?"
"Yeah. Do you believe in fate?"
"Well...sometimes."
"Whaddya mean 'sometimes'?" Chara rolled over to look at her brother, who was staring up at the hole as well. The yellow flowers felt nice and soft against her face.
"I think we can change SOME things, but if we don't find what we need fast enough, fate does."
"So...that's a yes?"
"I guess so. What about you? Do you believe in fate?"
Chara took a second to answer. "Yeah. Yeah, I do." How else could she have found her brother?
There was a beat of silence between the two. They stared up at the place where one of them had fallen so long ago.
"Do you think you're my soul sister?"
"Hm?" Chara glanced at her brother again.
"My soul sister."
"Soul sister? What's that?"
"I made it up. It's sort of like...when you find someone you wanna be with. Forever."
"Yes." She answered without missing a beat. She knew without a doubt she wanted to be with Azzy forever.
"So...does that make me your soul brother?"
"Yeah!" Chara sat up, smiling. "Im your soul sister, and you're my soul brother!"
"Should we tell Mom and Dad?"
"YEAH!" The human bounced up and started running back home.
"Hey, wait for me!"
The only answer he got was laughter.

"Yeah, She's my soul sister! And I'm her soul brother!"
"Oh? And what does that mean?"
"It means we get to be together forever!" Chara chimed in.
"Forever? That's a long time."
"We know!" The two siblings looked at each other and giggled.
Their mother laughed softly with them. She would have a fun time telling her husband about this, once he got back from his visit to Hotland.

"Pssst. Chara."
No answer.
"Chara. Sis. Are you awake?"
Asriel heard a yawn from the bed next to his. "I am now. What is it?"
"I wanna show you something."
"Show me...? Azzy, I'm too tired for this." Chara yawned again.
"But this is the only time we can!"
There was a small thump on the floor, then more coming toward the bed.
Chara rolled over so she was facing the wall. She wanted to sleep.
"Chara."
She didn't reply.
"Chara."
She clutched the blanket sheets.
"Chara. Chara. Chara. Chara. Chara."
"Could you just SHUT UP?!"
Azzy backed up a few steps, surprised. His sister usually didn't snap like that.
Chara folded her arms under her head and mumbled "Sorry."
"It's okay. I shouldn't have pushed."
There was a moment of silence.
"Where is it?"
"You want to see?"
"Fiiine. But only for a bit."
Azzy bounced a few times in excitement. "Come on!"
He grabbed her hand and pulled her out of bed.

"This the place?"
"Mhm."
"It's...wow."
The two siblings stared up at the small patch of pure starlight.
It wasnt the stars painted on the Waterfall ceiling. It was pure Surface starlight.
"This hole goes through the mountain?"
"Yeah. I found it one day when playing hide-and-seek with Dad."
"It's certainly hidden enough."
They both sat next to each other, looking up at the bright array of stars. Azzy accidentally-on-purpose laid his hand on top of Charas.
"Thanks for showing me."
"Of course."
Chara rested her head on Azzys sweater shoulder.
There was silence. Just them and the stars. The real stars. The Surface stars.
"Chara?" Azzy whispered after a while.
She didn't answer.
He glanced over and saw her peacefully sleeping and leaning on him.
He smiled and mumbled what he would've said anyway if she was awake.
"...Love you, Soul Sis."
