Dear Readers,
this is one of my very first works here on Wattpad, so I apologize for any of my mistakes. I hope you enjoy the first chapter of Sire's Mare.

~Indecipherably, Val

Adrian's POV

The wind blows through my wide opened window and sends my paperwork flying to the floor. I sighed as I got up from my chair and went to pick it up.

I've been working for the past 3 hours, and nothing has been done in ways that satisfy me or my father, the king. I decided that I needed a break.

I look outside from my white, double-glazed windows and wonder if there would be a storm coming. The kingdom looks drained from color as ashen clouds sweep over the stone towers. My window looks out to the courtyard, and even the trees moved swiftly with little motion.

Suddenly, I had a strong urge to run down to the stables. I wanted to run down to Belle, to escape from this never ending trail of paperwork. A breezy trail on my beloved Belle sounded perfect.

"Simon," I call, "I am going to head down to the stables."

"Sire, the forecast says that it will rain later on during this evening." My guard says.

"It's fine. I will be quick with this." I replied as I grabbed my coat.

"But, Sir. Your work-" I cut him off.

The wind hits my face once I make it past the castle gates. I take my secret shortcut to the stables. Pass the blacksmith, to the right, and around the market until you reach the tall standing tree. From there, I make my way through the crowd and reach Dapple Stables.

The strong scent of horse sweat, manure and hay hits my nose. Growing up, my mother, the former queen, took me to the stables daily. We rode on the forest trails and enjoyed the setting sun as we rested underneath maple trees. I had learned to love and handle horses thanks to my mother's grace. Being around the stable reminds me deeply of her. Sometimes I'd sneak here at night and stare at the moon.

My free time has been limited due to the position I had taken in the royal family. With this, I step feet into the stable.

A stable girl wearing a brown waffle-knit sweater appears and smiles at me. Her long, honey colored brunette hair gets blown to the front of her face. She quickly fixes herself as she got closer to me.

"Pardon me, Sire." She says. Embarrassed.

"No problem, and you can call me Adrian." I reply.

"Ah yes, Si- Adrian. I'm Amelia," we shake hands, "How may I assist you here at Dapple Stables today?"

"Well you see, I have been wanting to take a break. And I thought that a trail ride would fit."

"Sir, the weather is not-"

"I know."

"Ah, right... I'll get Belle."

Amelia turns her back and starts to walk towards a stall. Had I been too rude? I should apologize for cutting so many people off.

"Hey, Amelia?" I call.

"Yes, sir?" she turns and answers with a concerned look on her face.

"Would you mind joining me?" I hope I don't seem like a jerk to her. Hopefully she'll say yes, I'd like some company.

"Oh, I was not expecting that!" she flashes her smile again, "I would love to join you."

"Great. Then let's get going." I say.

I can see her smile to herself as she quickly turns and speed toward the tack room.
