Once again you find yourself in a bar in the middle of the night, drinking in attempt to drown your demons. Usually its a dive bar or a small old fashioned bar that's always quiet but tonight you slowly stumble into the Hotel Cortez, walking up the stairs to the bar, you drop down onto a seat and order something strong. The barmaid served you a straight whiskey, "thank you." You say, "my pleasure, what's your name?" She responds, tapping her nails on the bar surface. "(y/n), you?" You say, taking big gulps of the drink. "Liz Taylor. Pleasure." She says while extending a hand, you shake her hand and smile. "Likewise." A few minutes of silent drinking go by before you see someone moving in the corner or your eye, you glance over to see a blonde frizzy haired women in a leopard print coat shuffling towards you. She sits next to you and orders the same drink as you, Liz brings over the drink and refills your glass. "(Y/N), that's a nice name." She smirks. "Thanks..." you reply, "I'm Sally." She says. "Just leave me alone." You think to yourself. "Pleasure to meet ya, can I drink in peace please?" You sigh while throwing back your drink. "Somebody's had a bad day." Sally chuckles. "Don't be unsociable, c'mon talk to me." She continues, placing an arm over you. You flinch at her touch. "What do you want?" You question her, feeling slightly pissed off. "Relax, I just wanna talk." She replies, taking her arm off you. "Trust me there's nothing to talk about." You scoff. Sally looks you up and down before telling you that she sees the darkness in you. "Honey you have no idea how much darkness I have inside me." You chuckle at her words, "tell me, I like details." She smiles while leaning in towards you. You sigh but after a few moments pass you start to tell her how much pain you feel everyday, how your demons consume you and nobody cares you. A tear runs down her cheek as you talk to her. "You know nobody would even notice if I disappeared, I drink to try and numb the pain but even then, it's either pain or emptiness and it's just pathetic." You continue, your eyes beginning to fill with tears as the pain twinges inside you. Sally runs her finger across your cheek to wipe away a tear, she sniffs sharply and wipes away her own tears, she looks down at your wrist to see a vertical scar going down your wrist. "Was this an attempt to silence the demons too?" She asks while sliding her fingers down it then resting her hand on yours. "A pretty shit attempt it yeah." You laugh. "Life is just...empty." You sigh, "I got fired, my social life is in the shit and my love life.." you hesitate, "that's just non existent." You continued, sally noticed that you were fighting hard to keep the tears from falling. "Why'd you get fired?" She asked. You turn to look at her, "my girlfriend was fucking my boss and I walked in on them screwing on my desk." Sally's mouth dropped, "so you lost a lover and a job in the same 5 minutes huh?" She asked, you nod, chuckle at yourself and take another swig from your drink. "I just wanna feel something, something other than this shit!" You confess through gritted teeth. Sally took in a breath, "Wanna shoot up?" Sally exhaled, grabbing your hand. You laugh and look at her, "are you serious?" "Deadly." She responds with squinted eyes. After a few moments of contemplation you finally decide that there's nothing left to lose so why not? "Sure, fuck it." You say, swigging the rest of your drink back and standing up. Sally stands up smiling and you both make your way to the elevator.
Sally presses the button in the elevator and the doors shut. You're both stood there in silence for what felt like an eternity, you turn and look up and down at Sally. "You know, you could do so much more." You say with a sigh. "Huh?" Sally responds, confused at your words. "Drugs, this sleazy hotel..you could be doing more than this, you could be making something of yourself." You pause, "you're beautiful, I can tell you're smart, you're young, you have so much potential out in the world." You continued. Sally responds with a laugh, "Me? Out there? Living?" She says while gesturing to the elevator doors. "Yeah." You respond. Sally chuckles and cups your face, "why don't you take your own advice?" She says with a semi serious tone. "Because I'm a failure." You mutter. Sally's eyes turned soft and she let go of your face with a gentle shove, the elevator dinged and the doors opened. "After you." You say. Sally scoffed and walks out, you follow her. You reached Sally's room and walked in, finding yourself a seat at the bottom of her bed. Sally pulled off her coat and slumped in on the chair next to the bed. "You sure you want this kid?" She asks, taking a cigarette out of her bag and lighting it up. "Yeah, I want to feel something." You reply. Sally raised an eyebrow, she tells you how it will make you feel high but she isn't responsible if you become an addict. You shrug and tell her you don't care if you become an addict. Sally proceeds to pull out a needle and the necessary bits to get the heroin ready. You sit and twiddle your fingers while watching her get it ready. She uses her mouth the pull the plunger of the needle up, the needle then sucks up the liquid china white. Sally sits for a moment, as if she is hesitant to hand it over to you. "Is it ready?" You ask. She nods and slowly moves her hand over to you, "here." She says. You take the needle off her, roll up your sleeve and go to find a vein. Before you could inject it though, sally batted the needle out of your hand. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" Sally asked in a raised voice. You look up to her in disbelief, "what?" You reply. She grabs you by the shirt and lifts you up, looking deep into your eyes you could see anger burning within them. "You're so willing to throw your life away like this? You told me that I had potential but really, you're just overlooking it in yourself." She scolds you. You stare at her, still in disbelief at her outburst. "You stupid motherfucker. Do you have any idea what I'd give to have the freedom you do?!" She spits, "why are you pissed at me?!" You ask her. Her eyes begin to tear up, she releases her death grip off your shirt and begins to sob into your shoulder. You hold her in place and shush her, you didn't understand what was happening but you felt guilty for your selfish actions. "I'm sorry sally, I just don't know what to do, everything in my life has been torture, if I'm not numb I'm in pain, trauma after trauma, I'm broken, so..fucking...broken." You explain to her in a whimpered voice, tears streaming down your face as you stroke her neck softly. "I just want to be loved, to be needed you know, and I don't think I'll ever find that and it hurts so fucking much." You continued, your voice constantly breaking mid sentence. Sally looks up at you and kisses your lips, taken back by her actions you just simply leaned into it, holding her closer to you and cupping her face. Her lips were so soft, her touch was so gentle, with how vicious she seemed only moments ago you forgot it was the same person. Your lips parted and she looked deep into your eyes once more, "please live, keep living, for me, I can be that reason for you to keep going, I can be your painkiller." She whispered. That was all it took, all it took for you to finally feel something, a feeling that wasn't negative, you felt safe, safe with Sally, safe from the world and safe from yourself. You caressed her cheek and smiled meekly at her. "I'll try." You paused.
