Ch.2: Study Group

Sougo stared at the clock on his phone as he sat at the table in his living room. "That stupid pig doesnt know the meaning of punctuality." It was the weekend, and China was supposed to come over so that he could tutor her without her getting distracted. You would think that since they literally lived next door to eachother, she would be on time. Sadly for Sougo though, the China brat was already half an hour late. He heard a loud series of impatient knocks on his door, followed by: "Oi sadist, open up uh huh." Sougo walked to the door and twisted the doorknob. "China, do u even know the meaning of-" he paused as he opened the door to see that she wasnt the only one at the door. Kagura grinned, "i thought it would be more fun with minna." "Tch. I understand bringing the Shimuras and Kondou-san, but why is the Mayo freak here too?"
"I'm only here because Kondou-san asked me to come,"
"Ah, by the way who invited this Gorilla anyway?" Otae asked as her vein popped.
"Ma maa, Otae-san. This is my home afterall," kondou replied proudly. "You should even stay the night Otae-san! You can sleep in my-" he was cut off when Otae's fist met his face, sending him to the ground, tears flowing. "Well then, let's get to studying then," Otae said with a smile. Everyone just walked past kondou and into the living room.
"Oi sadist, where are your snacks?"
"Im not telling you China. If i tell you, ill be out of food within 10 minutes, you pig."
Kagura launched a punch to his face but he easily dodged it by moving to the side. "Hmph, kuso sadist," she said as she sat down at the table and took out her books. "So," Sougo said as he took the seat next to Kagura. "What exactly did danna say to help you with?" "Hmmm, I think Gin-chan said that im failing english, but when he got home he said my maths scores should probably improve a bit," kagura said. "Jaa, we'll work on maths, since megane and the gorilla woman can also help out with that," As sougo said this, he felt an icy cold hand touch his shoulder from behind. "Okita-san, who are you calling a gorilla woman?" Said otae with an evil smile. "Aneue, calm down!" Said shinpachi as he pulled her back. He knew best of all how deadly that seemingly innocent smile of hers really was. "Dont worry Shin-chan! I wont hurt him...much," as she said the last part, her smile grew even more evil. Otae was about to launch a fist at okita but the stopped when she noticed him and Kagura bickering once again. A sweet smile washed over her face, as she covered her mouth with her hand and slightly giggled. "Aneue?" Shinpachi asked. "Ah, its nothing! Let's start studying Shin-chan!"

"Oi sadist! Can we take a break yet, I'm hungry, uh huh."
"We took a break 10 minutes ago, it's not my fault you're a pig with a bottomless pit for a stomach."
"Ahhhh, i cant deal with u on an empty stomach! Kuso sadist, just lemme have a small snack!"
"China, when it comes to food you dont know the definition of small,"
"What was that you punk chihuaha?!" She turned to Otae. "Anego! Health me, im gonna die of hunger thanks to the Sadist uh huh!"
"It's help me you idiot," Sougo deadpanned.
"Urasai!"
The two continued fighting. "Ma maa," Kondou tried to calm them down, "Sougo, just make her do one more question and then we can take another break."
"Well, you brats have been here studying the whole day anyway. You might as well just finish up, eat dinner and go home," said Mayora.
"Really?!" Kagura said as her eyes lit up at him.
"Sure," he said plainly.
Kagura's grin grew wider and so did Sougo's annoyance. He shot Hijikata a death stare. Hijikata just stood there unaffected, he was more than used to sougos death stares by now. Otae, being the only other one who noticed Sougo's jealous reaction, giggled lightly and turned to Kagura. "How nice, Kagura-chan," she said sweetly. "What is?" Kagura asked dumbfounded. "Nothing," otae replied giggling. "Oi china, if youre done with your girls-i mean pigs talk, the rest of us would like to eat dinner, so hurry up and finish this last question."
"Dont call me a pig!"
Suddenly a thought popped into Otae's mind, "Ah i know! Since everybody else is finished, why dont we all start eating dinner and okita-san and kagura-chan can join us when he's done helping kagura-chan with this last question!"
"Hmmm, i dont get the point, but im kind of hungry so i guess i agree," shinpachi said as the four headed to the other room to start eating, leaving the two teens alone in the room. "Matte Anego! That's not fair, i wanna eat too,"
"Then hurry up and finish this question china," sougo said blankly as he hit her head with the book.
-a few minutes later-
"Oi China, i thought i showed you how to do this one already?"
"Urasai-aru! I understand, its just taking me a while to deal with this part..." she grunted as she trailed off. "You already showed me so you can go if you want Sadist," she said blankly, still staring at the question. "No, if i go, you'll probably just cheat or something," he said. But maybe that wasnt the only reason. He kept staring at her as he rested his face on his open hand. For as long as he could remember, he could never leave China alone. No matter how much she annoyed him or got on his nerves, the one thing he couldnt stand was to see her alone or sad. Maybe because of how he saw the way her brother treated her, maybe because he just liked annoying her, or maybe... his trail of thought was cut short by China's loud grunt and grumbling stomach. "Ahhhhh! I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE!" kagura yelled in annoyance. She turned to the sandy haired boy. "Sadist, how the hell do you do this question?!"
He sighed and Tched.
He lazily picked up the pencil and moved right next to her. He began showing her how to solve the question, but Kagura couldnt hear a word he said over her rapidly beating heart. The sadist's face was right next to her ear, his hands almost touching hers and she could feel his warm breath caress her bare neck. She could tell her face was flushed. But she didnt know why it made her blush, or why her heart was beating when it was just the Sadist; her ultimate rival, and nothing else...right?
"Do you understand now?" Sougo asked, not noticing that China wasnt paying attention. "Oi China," he said as he slowly turned to face her. Kagura, who had just woken up from her thoughts, also began to turn to face the sadist. Until they both froze, it was only then that they realised how close their bodies were to eachother. They were sitting so close, that their legs were just touching, their faces were facing each other, their lips just an inch apart. They could feel the warmth of eachother's breath and Sougo's red eyes felt as if they were piercing into Kagura's blue orbs and vice-versa. She couldnt control the beating of her heart anymore, and the red of her face mimicked that of her hair. Little did she know that Sougo's heart was beating just as fast as hers, but his deadpan expression hid it well. He reached his hand out to her cheek. Her skin was soft and smooth. He took a deep breath as he leaned in closer, "China..." his soft voice made her lips tremble and her heart somehow beat faster. "Why?" She thought as she leaned her face closer to his aswell. Their lips were about to touch when-
"Kagura-chan, okita-san are you finished yet?" Otae said as she walked in. "Are re," she said as she looked at the two, "Gomennasai, am i interrupting something?"
Kagura, who had snapped out of her thoughts and unknown actions, winced and pushed the sadist away as she realised what she was about to do. "I-it's nothing anego! Is dinner ready yet??" She asked eagerly, trying to change the topic. She got up and walked to the door where otae was, "W-well, ill be heading out first. It's not my fault if there isnt any food left for you sadist, uh huh!" She said as she stuck her tongue out at him, hoping to god he didnt realise what it was she was about to do. "Tch, you really have no decency, do you? It's my house and my food you pig," he said, also hoping that China didnt know what he was about to do and also trying to convince himself that he wasnt gonna do anything. "Hmph," she replied walking out as a sigh of relief washed over both of them. As she walked past out, they both had the same thoughts.
Sougo: What was I thinking?
Kagura: Why did I feel lik that?
Sougo: And...
Both: How far was I going to go?

After Dinner:
They were all standing outside. "Today was really fun! Thank you for the invite!" Otae said as she and Shinpachi bowed at okita. Otae turned to shinpachi, "should we get going now?" "Otae-san! Shall I walk you home?!" Kondou jumped at her but was unsurprisingly met with a fist. "Get lost Gorilla." Shinpachi looked at Kagura, she looked uneasy. "Whats wrong kagura-chan? You live next door so shouldn't you get going as well?"
"Well... i forgot to get the keys from Gin-chan," she said trailing off. "Huh?! China, how forgetful can you be?" Sougo said as he hit her head. "Urasai-aru! Besides dont you have a spare key or something Sadist?"
"I do, but it's for the backdoor. So you'll still have to walk to the street behind us, cause that's the only way you can get to it," Sougo replied. Kagura sighed, she didnt want to admit it to the Sadist, but she was afraid of walking the edo streets alone at night. She knew all too well that while there were nice people in edo, it was also the pinnacle of crime in Japan. As if he could read her mind he sighed and gestured in the direction which China would have to go if she wanted to get home. "Horra, I'll walk you home China," he said plainly. "Megane and his sister are going the other way so-" before he could finish she interrupted him, "No way, uh huh! I'm not a child, I'm not-" he cut her off before she could finish, "You're not...scared?" He said. She winced and her face became flushed. She looked down, "No...I mean I, I never said I wasnt scared uh huh," she said quietly. He sighed, then turned to the shimuras. "Jaa, I'll see you guys monday," he said as him and Kagura began walking in the other direction.
-A few minutes later-
They were walking in silence, with Kagura a few steps ahead of Sougo and Sougo with his hands in his pocket.
"Hey Sadist,"
"What is it China?"
"Have you ever met the school's sponsor committee?"
"You mean the group of people in charge of Principal Imai and his bosses?"
"Yeah,"
"Hmmm, I dont think i ever have, why are you asking anyway?"
"Just, dont you find it weird that they never show themselves. Like theyre our sponsors, but they never have assemblies where we express our gratitude for them, and they arent even mentioned at the school festivals or anything,"
"Hehhh, using your brain for once China?" He said with a smirk.
"Shut up kuso Sadist! Anyway, what do you think?"
"Hmmm, it is weird to see principal Imai actually listening to someone he doesnt respect,"
"What do you mean-aru?"
"Maa, it doesnt seem like he likes them, let alone respects them. They really are secretive," sougo was about to continue when he noticed China had stopped walking and he was about to bump into her back. He began to look up, "Oi, China why'd you stop walk-" he stopped when he noticed who was just a few steps in front of them. Sougo stood in front of Kagura and grabbed one of her hands, pulling her body behind his in attempt to shield her from any likely attacks that might come from the vermillion haired man with a bloodthirsty smile in front of them. "What the hell do you want," Sougo's blood red eyes, pierced into the ocean blue eyes in front of him, "Kamui?" Kagura shivered at the sight of the scene before her. Sougo was wearing a cold expression and looked like he was about to kill a certain someone. Her whole body was shaking in fear, not only for herself but also for the Sadist and possibly even her ''brother''. She looked at her brother.
"Hmmm, what do we have here?" Kamui asked in his usual childish voice. There was silence, and no one answered. "This is...amusing," he began walking towards them and Sougo Tched and gripped her hand tighter. Kamui continued, "I somehow found myself in Kabuki-cho and remembered that my dear sister lives near here, so I decided to pay her visit. But, instead I find her and her overprotective sadistic boyfriend taking a stroll together at midnight," he stopped when he wad right in front of Sougo and Kagura (who could be seen behind Sougo). He opened his eyes and looked her dead in the eye. "You make your Oni-chan very dissapointed," his voice was cold and vicious. Sougo felt her hand tremble and lose strength in fear, as her brother moved his hand slowly to cup her face. But just as he was about to touch her, Sougo slapped his hand away. "Oi, who the hell are you calling her boyfriend?" Sougo said in a serious tone, Shadows covered Sougo's eyes. Kamui turned to look at him, an expression of rage washed over his face. "Dont touch her you boar, in fact dont bring your stinkin' body even close to China," said sougo as he glared up at him. Kamui laughed, "hai hai, how scary," he said mockingly. "But, if you're gonna flirt with my sister, do it somewhere where no ome has to watch it." He turned and began walking the other way. With his back facing them, he continued talking as his figure faded away, "i dont really care what happens to you or my weakling of a sister, but I'd rather not have people seeing someone im related to in such a pathetic scenario and state," that really hurt Kagura. She felt all the strength in her body disappear, including her hand which the sadist was gripping. She fell to her knees. The tears just started flowing and she covered her mouth with both of her hands to stop-or at least silence the cries coming from her. Her heart felt like it was just stabbed by a thousand knives. "China..." he just looked at her, not knowing what to do. He had never seen her this bad before, and for some reason his heart was aching and he didnt know what to say. He bent down until he was at eye level with her, but she kept staring down, tears flowing and her hands covering her mouth in attempt to hide the cries. "He...That bastard doesnt know anything. Dont let him get to you china," He said in a reassuring voice as he put his hand on her head. But she kept crying. Unconsciously, he pulled her into a hug, his arms wrapped around her petite back and head. She didnt stop, "Everyone cares about you China, everyone loves you...Everyone...I am here for you," he grabbed one of her hands off of her face and held it tight. Her azure blue eyes werre now staring at his ruby red eyes. "So, dont show me such an ugly face, dont cry," Sougo said. His words must have reached her, because after Sougo said that, her other hand let go of her mouth and gripped his back. The cries became louder and more consistent for a while. But after a few minutes, they were embracing each other in silence. Sougo let go of her and let her rest on his chest. She had fallen asleep, probably exhausted from crying. He decided to take her back to his house and put her in the spare bedroom. He carried her in his arms as he walked back to his house. "I swear I'm gonna kill that Bastard one of these days."
