-Chapter 3-
The Crash
I don't mind walking home alone. If anything it gives me time to think and clear my mind. I put my hoodie over my head as a light sprinkle of rain begins to fall from the sky. My earbuds get placed in my ear and I continue to walk home.
As I'm walking, I consider getting a job so I can save up to buy an apartment maybe when I'm a senior in high school. I definitely don't wanna live with Derek for the rest of my life. Just thinking about that makes me shutter in disgust. I try calculating how much money I should save up just to get an apartment. Then I have to buy furniture, pay for bills, etc. that's waaay too much money for me to get until I have a real job.
I sigh in defeat as I'm wondering how long it'll take me to save up for an apartment. If I get a job that only gives you the minimum payment wage, then it'll be a long time. A very long time. Sighing again, I think to myself, oh well, might as well start saving all of my money so I'll get one eventually.
I'm about five blocks away from my house now. All I have to do is cross the street and go down a few blocks then I'll be there. I take my iPod out of my jacket pocket when suddenly something comes barreling out of the sky.
I gasp, startled, as I watch what appears to be some kind of spacecraft that's on fire crashing towards the earth. It comes at the speed of a bullet, so fast that after I blink, it crashes into the grass in a nearby field.
My initial instinct is to flee from the scene and go get some help. It's probably just a small airplane that had some sort of machine malfunction...right? But as I stand there, in complete shock, I decide that I should probably go see if someone needs help. I'm sure someone is severely injured and needs to go to a hospital. The crash was pretty loud and a bad one too. I notice several pieces of the craft are scattered around the field. Deciding that I'd better go check it out, I break out into a run and head for the downed spacecraft.
Silently, I'm thinking, please don't be hurt too bad, I don't like blood. If there's a lot of blood, then we'll both be in huge trouble. I'm not over exaggerating by the way. I get dizzy and sometimes nauseous when I see a lot of blood. There's several tv shows I can't watch just because they're too gory. So if the pilot or passengers of this craft are hurt really bad, then we're going to have a problem.
It takes me about five minutes to run all the way to the spacecraft. When I get there, black smoke is billowing everywhere, making cough. My body racks with horrible coughs as I near the thing that crashed. As I get closer, I see that there's no wings on either side of it like an airplane would look like. So it's definitely not an airplane.
"Hello? Is-is anyone hurt? Please answer me! I'm here to help!" I cry as loud as I can.
I listen over the intense roar of the burning flames. Suddenly a piece of flaming metal smashes down in front of me and I scream, jumping a few inches back. I cough as more smoke is thrown into my face. My instincts are telling me to flee the scene because I don't think I'm the right person to be saving anyone, but I know I should at least try.
I peer down inside of the ship, trying to look for any survivors. There's no one inside the ship at all, and it doesn't even look like something that NASA has built. There's only a strange computer-looking dashboard at the top of the ship and a single black chair that takes up the entire area of the ship. The ship doesn't look like it'd be very comfortable to fly in, but that doesn't matter at the moment.
"Hello? Is anyone here? Hello!" I scream through my coughing fits. Panic is beginning to set in as the heat feels like it's consuming my body. I know if I don't find anyone soon, I need to get out of here, before I die. I duck underneath a piece of flaming metal and jump through some smoke. When the smoke clears a little, I squint my eyes as I notice a large chunk of metal.
The piece of metal is engulfed in flames. Around it, the smoke is too thick for me to see much, but as I get closer, I see what looks like a small hand lying on the ground. I gasp, terrified. Oh God is that...is that a child? I think. Nervously, I cross over to the body and try to lift the burning piece of metal, but it's just too hot. I cry out in pain as my hands are scorched from touching it.
"Don't worry, I'm going to try to help you! Just hang in there!" I scream at the person below the metal.
Again I try to lift the piece, but I know it's just not gonna do any good. I'm not near as strong as I need to be in order to lift this. The thing must weigh at least a ton and it's so thick that I don't see how the person below could even still be alive. Suddenly I hear something, a voice.
"Stand back, please. I'm going to move it."
I freeze in place, completely stunned to hear someone else's voice in this chaotic situation. As I glance down, I know the person speaking must be the same person trapped underneath. Confused, I say, "Are you okay? How are you going to move it?"
Suddenly the piece of metal slowly rises in the air. I'm in so much shock that I scream in terror as I watch it rise. I fall flat on my butt as I watch. The piece of fiery metal rises just a few inches off the ground, and when I look down I can't help but scream again.
Lying on its back on the ground is a tiny, injured, non-human...alien.
