"It's the last day of summer, Kels. Go out and do something. You've sat in your room or on the couch ever since we moved, you won't make friends that way." My mother scolds me as I lay on the couch.

Maybe because I don't want to be here. I had friends back in Chicago. It's your fault I'm here now. I scream at her in my imagination.

"This coach is my friend along with Netflix. They are here everyday mom. They've helped me through this move." I screw my eyes shut so I can avoid her murderous glare.

My mother sighs a little to loud and stomps out of the living room over dramatically. I open my eyes and reach for my phone. No texts. I forgot I had no friends in this hell hole. I slowly fall of the couch and crawl out of the living room to the stairs.

"I'm getting in the shower, I'm going to walk Daisy after I get ready to explore this town." I add air quotes around explore. My mother is smiling at me like an idiot and I roll my eyes and make my way up the stairs.

20 minutes later I walk out of my bathroom and walk over to my closet. I grab my white crop top and a pair of high-waisted shorts and slip on my black vans. I brush through my hair quickly and let it air dry. I don't do anything else with it but let my natural waves take over. I'm only exploring, it's not like I'm meeting anyone. I decide on only mascara, grab my phone and walk down the stairs.

"I'm leaving now." I tell my mom as I hook Daisy to her leash.

"Okay. Have fun!" She hollers from the kitchen.

I walk down to the end of my street and take a left. I observe the houses in my neighborhood and realize they are very nice houses. Well groomed yards and nice cars in the driveways. Up ahead there are a group of boys standing on the sidewalk chattering. I take that as my cue to get off the sidewalk and onto the side of the road.

I can hear them talking amongst themselves only to go quiet briefly. I look up from watching my feet and all eyes are on me. Great. One of the boys is smiling sweetly at me while the others seem to be in a daze. I decide to smile back at the boy smiling and add a simple wave. He waves back at me and his smile grows brighter.

"He seems friendly enough" I think to myself, "Good looking too" I add

I'm now standing at the end of the road trying to decide which way to turn. I decide to go straight because of the big building indicating I must be close to being in town. My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of long boards behind me.

"Hey!" I here a voice holler at me.

I turn around to see the boy that smiled at me in front of his group of friends on a longboard. I take in his appearance this time. He's wearing light colored skinny jeans, a black Diamond Co. Shirt with a maroon jacket over it, black vans on his feet and a matching maroon beanie. His hair is a light brown and gelled up perfectly. He looks to be about 16 or 17 and about 6'7. Bingo.

"Are you the new girl that just moved here?" He asks, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Umm, yeah... I moved here about a month ago." I tuck a piece of hair behind my ear as I say this.

"I thought so, I haven't seen you around much." He politely smiles at me

"Yeah, I don't really ever get out unless I have to." I laugh

"Oh I see" he says awkwardly.

It's quiet for a few seconds and I pull out my phone to check it knowing that I don't have anything to check.

"I'm gonna go explore now, I have yet to find out where the school is." I roll my eyes and turn on my heel.

"The school? Wow, you really don't get out much. Go straight from here, you'll walk about 5 blocks. Take a right on Oak St. then go 2 blocks down and it's right there." He smiles when he's finished.
