1 year later after that fateful night
"LUCI... LUCI..." Gabriel was walking down the stream as he shouted for his friend. Lucifer had said he was going hunting for the season but he hadn't come back for at least 10 minutes. That's not really a long time. But the snowy wolf would say otherwise.
"LUCI... LUCI...LUC-" "WHAT?!" Lucifer was dragging what seemed to be a dead rabbit up the stream. There was blood on his mouth running up his jawline. He stopped dragging the rabbit when he was in front Gabriel and as his blue orbs met with Gabriel's yellow ones, he sighed and said with a tinge of annoyance. "Why aren't you back at the cave?"
The white wolf looked at him innocently, his tongue hanging out, and joyfully said, "You were gone for a while, so I got worried. You never know these days Lus." The obsidian wolf just rolled his eyes at that and turned to the stream. His mouth hadn't even touched the water when, in a blink of an eye, he heard a splash and was all soaking wet.
He looked up only to see Gabriel laughing, a laugh that could light up the whole forest. "Thought you needed a little wash, since... you know," and motioned his paw around his snout about the rabbits blood. He broke into a fit of giggles but was cut off when he felt something pulling him into the water and another splash was heard.
And they were off. Splashing water at each other's faces, having races.
*Flashback*
The pups were running through the forest blind. The dark oaked trees towering over them. The only sound that could be heard was the crying pups being torn apart, the growls and howls of the injured, and the sound of Gabe and Luci's tiny paws running through the olive green grass.
And the sound of water rushing was heard through the cold, autumn wind. And the splashing and cries is what made Gabriel stop dead in his tracks. "L-l-LUCIFER?!" and he was off and stopped when the sound of water rushing got louder. "Gabe *gargle* GABE" and the moonlight appeared to see Lucifer being pulled away with the current.
Only when the water met his blood-soaked body, did he realise: I can't swim. But he learned fast and got the concept quick and he was clawing and kicking against the water getting closer to Lucifer.
Claw, kicknearly there Claw, kickgetting closer Claw, kickfaster Claw, Kick and he was pulling out a tired Lucifer to land.
*Flashback end*
"Hey Gabe you alright?" The snowy wolf shook his head out of his trance. "Hm? Oh yeah I'm fine." And they were back to splashing and having swimming races until the sky was turning into an ombre of misty pinks and red. The 2 wolves got out and shook of the water. Gabriel starting rolling around the grass like a dog wanting a belly rub and Lucifer just laid down his head on top of his paws staring into the changing sky. There was a peaceful aura surrounding them. Everything's perfect...Lucifer thought. Everything's fine...
No unusual smells. No crying animals. Everything wasfine.
Gabriel stopped turning and stared up into the sky. "Autumns coming..." Over the past year Gabriel's mood always had a slight change to it when it was the beginning of autumn and Lucifer knew why. It was a reminder of that day. All the 100 days of autumn were just a reminder.
----------
"OW OW OOOOO" A feminine howl was heard that both startled Gabriel and Lucifer. "What in the name of..." Gabriel and Lucifer looked up to hill by the village the humans lived in.
The pale moonlight revealed the source of the howling, standing on the top of the hill, and a crimson wolf with eyes like the gold of a merchant staring down, at what seemed to be the village but as her eyes scanned her surroundings from above, Gabriel swore they made eye contact.
Both the wolves stood up as Gabriel said, "I think we should go back to the cave." Lucifer nodded as a reply and picked up the dead hare he hunted.
----------
Two large stones with their tops against each other, created an arch against the tall mountains that was on the side of the forest. When you walked through the arch, you'd be greeted with a large cave with multiple caverns. This was where the animals of the mountains lived. Well this was one of the caves where the animals of the mountains lived. There were a lot more caves but the entrances were hidden with boulders and debris. The humans in the villages liked to call these animals Occulere Montagne.
There were all sorts of Occulere Montagne. From bats to lynxes to other wolves like Gabriel and Lucifer.
"Boys! There you are!" a sweet voice rang as the boys entered the cave. "Cat!" Gabriel exclaimed joyfully. "My goodness I was worried about you both, after I heard that howling at first I thought it was you but then other bats told me it was a wolf with red fur!" Cat was a bat that basically adopted Lucifer and Gabriel. "Does the whole forest and Occulerers know about that wolf?" Lucifer asked with yawn. "Yep, nobody's seen a red wolf before. The Lynx's are rambling about a curse and whatnot."
"Superstitious bastards. It was only a damn howl." Lucifer mumbled as he walked to his and Gabriel's cavern.
Gabriel awkwardly smiled at Cat, "He's just tired." He apologised as he followed Lucifer.
