She stood on the edge and looked down at what looked like ants, ants scurrying every which way, going who knows where. She couldn't help but appreciate the the city lights, though the night sky was clear not a star was in sight. It was as if the stars had fallen and become part of the city, a city that had stolen the beauty of the sky and kept it for itself. Beauty, however, was not the only thing this vile city had taken for itself; it had taken her pride, her love, her compassion, and simply left her a husk, nothing more than a shell of her former self. There was nothing left for this city to take, nothing but her life. She closed her eyes and let her body rest. By the time she had opened them, the pavement was approaching closer and closer, with it's speed seemingly ever increasing.
She had been falling for what now felt like an eternity; it seemed as though the pavement was stuck in a state of coming but never quite getting there. It took her a good bit of time to realize that something was off; she should have been nothing more than a stain by now. "Why was this taking longer than it needed to?" she thought. All semblance of panic had now almost entirely vanished, completely erasing the significance of the act she had just committed. As she was falling, she noticed someone was falling with her, a boy that seemed to be in his early twenties, at the very least. He didn't seem panicked or phased; he simply just stared at her for a minute or two until he finally decided to speak.
"So hey, uhh finally decided to do the deed eh?" He said it in the most casual way, almost as if they were not current plummeting to their death. She couldn't say a word as she was just taken aback by just how calm he was, the rushing wind that would've otherwise made it difficult for her to hear was almost non-existent.
"Not gonna say a word? that's cool I mean if u want to die that bad I won't stop you. However, I will say, with my help you have the potential to rule this world and even take revenge on the disgusting humans that took everything from you." She started to piece things together, trying to figure out just who this person was. "Surely this can't be a normal human. Otherwise, why would he be offering me a job now of all times?" She let the thought linger in her mind for a bit until she finally came to an unsettling conclusion. She gathered up the courage and finally spoke.
"You're the devil aren't you? You want me to make a deal with you so u could have my soul?" The boy merely smiled in response. He smiled a smile that was almost condescending, in its own way, a smile that said, "oh honey you have no idea."
"You're right about one thing. I'm not the devil. I do, however, want your soul. I mean, you're clearly not going to be using it anytime soon." She never much believed in the afterlife anyway. She wasn't necessarily sure what fate awaited her after this and she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to find out. Selling her soul didn't seem like such a bad idea. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?
