7 - Then Who Just Called Me?!
Riley frowned in frustration. She sat on her bed, waiting warily for Trey to call her back like he promised he would. Even though he's given her his word, she heard the edge in his voice, his irritation very obvious on his features. Riley was upset at both Matt and Trey, but was mostly angry with herself. She scolded herself loudly, cut off by the abrupt ring of her cell phone.
"Hello?" She said breathlessly into the receiver. She could hear a light, shallow breathing on the end that sent a warning bell off in the back of her mind.
She ignored it.
"Hello...?! Trey this isn't funny!" Riley said, screaming as she heard him say her name, merely whispering. Her body erupting into shakes. She couldn't believe that Trey would pull something like this after the argument they'd had. She rolled her eyes and hung up the phone angrily. After a few minutes, she heard the phone ring again, and she stared at it dubiously, daring herself to answer it. After a short internal battle, she picked it up and slid the answer button to the right. She talked into the phone before Trey could.
"Trey that crap isn't funny! Why are you messing with me like this?! I really thought I should believe you but-" Riley was ranting, her mind hardly processing what she was yelling into the phone. Trey cut her off sharply.
"RILEY! What the heck are you talking about?!" Trey said loudly, his baritone voice overpowering Riley's easily. Riley's heart hammered. Not from fear or sadness, but from pure irritation.
"TREY DON'T ACT LIKE YOU DON'T KNOW!!" She paused, giving herself some time to breathe and regain her posture. "Trey...if you're going to play stupid jokes, at least have the guys to admit it. I mean seriously, you're being ridiculous. I'll talk to you later, I can't be bothered with your ull crap at the moment." She spat, as she hung up.
She ran her hands through her hair sighing as she realized she couldn't - more like profusely refused to - call Matt. She was angry with him too. Groaning, she unlocked her phone again, ready to call Matt regardless, until she saw a text from Trey on her screen. She tapped 'Read Message' with haste.
'Riley, I swear on my sister's grave, I don't know what you're talking about. Please talk to me'
That made Riley's eyes bulge out of their sockets. She bit her nail in deep thought and frowned, not knowing what to believe. Finally she gave up, and decided to call Matt, she reminded herself to call Trey later as she dialed Matt's number.
"Hey Ry, what's up?"
Riley instantly felt calm - and cursed at herself for feeling this way - as soon as she heard his voice. She faltered a moment, forgetting her reason for calling in the first place.
"Hi, um...I just wanted...to say hi. " She said, almost shamefully. Her eyes almost instantly rolled at how stupid she sounded. Matt chuckled, making Riley smile also.
"Well okay then. It's good to hear your voice too. Bye Riley..." Riley muttered out her goodbye and hung up the phone, feeling only a tiny bit lighter. Her insides felt like putty, her mind a blank pink blob of emptiness. She didn't know where she could go, so she picked up her phone yet again and called Sebastian, who answered almost immediately.
"Hey hey, Rilaaaay!" He said into the phone cheerfully. Riley frowned, wondering how he knew it was her calling. "Caller I.D silly." He said.
"Oh my gosh! Bash did I say that out loud?" Riley asked incrdulously. Bash laughed, so loud that Riley had to pull the phone away from her ear. "Well anyway.." she said when she put the phone back to her ear. "I was wondering if you want to work on the project?" Riley asked hopefully. She needed something, anything to fill her Saturday, so she wouldn't be sitting home, worried about...well, everything.
