I wrote this story because of being inspired by the life of Edward Mordrake who has a congenital disease called Diprosopus or also known as the Cronofacial Disorder. He was reportedly the 19th century heir to an English peerage. He committed suicide at the age of 23.
"I'm sorry Mr. and Mrs. Macready."
The doctor said to the parents of the newborn baby.
"Your baby (looks at the note he's holding) Jeremiah Addison Macready is healthy but she possesses a congenital disorder which is called Diprosopus or also known as Cronofacial Disorder."
"Wha-what is that?" The father said with a trembling voice.
The doctor breathes deeply and explains what kind of disease the baby possesses.
"The baby has... another face in her back."
The parents started to cry, the doctor continued his explanation.
"It is supposedly her conjoined twin but... unfortunately the embryos did not separate completely. It is the result of abnormal activity by the protein SHH or the sonic hedgehog."
"But doctor Marcus.. can you.. can you just removed her twin?" The father asked aggressively.
"I'm sorry but it will be a treat to the life of the baby, the other face (referring to the face on the back of the baby) is somehow alive, although it can neither eat nor speak, but the baby is crying silently, it has tears on his eyes and can smile."
The phone rang, the doctor answered it.
"If you may excuse me Mr. and Mrs. Macready, I have other errands to be done, you can asked my nurse if you have any other questions. Good bye."
The parents are left shocked and confused, they can do nothing about the baby's condition, they can just mourn and feel pity for their daughter.
Jeremiah becomes more pretty as she grows older, but her twin sister becomes the opposite of what she is, it becomes more uglier as time passes by, her face is full of wrinkles that makes it look like in her 60 years of life.
"HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY JEREMIAH!!"
Her father, mother, and younger brother yelled in chorus. After, the gifts are presented to her.
"Thanks dad, mom, Todd." She said with teary eyes.
"I love you baby, don't cry." Her mom said and hugged her tightly.
"Okay, kill the dramatic moment dear, let's start eating this delicious turkey and be happy." Her father tells while wiping his tears using his finger.
