"Uh, hello? Sir? Dude? Guy?"
For all of the things in the world that bothered me, it was being interrupted from a book. One that I've read numerous times, not as much. A new one was just the worst. Reading was always an escape from the real world for me, and being tugged back into it was such a drag.
Slowly I tilted my head up, adjusting my glasses from their sloped down position. In front of me was a girl around my age, early 20's at least. The voice that spoke out to me matched this girl's appearance entirely. She smiled at me with incredibly white and straight teeth which stood out with the color of her bleach blonde hair. Her blue eyes were wide and had a quality as if they were smiling themselves. Staring at her was like staring at a billboard for Victoria's Secret. It was actually sort of weird.
"I'm sorry, you probably don't know me. Actually you don't because we've never formally met. You were at the Neo-Futurist's show last night, weren't you?" She asked this so casually it was strange. For me to ask or talk to a complete stranger was hard as it was, so I avoided it as much as I could. Yet she had an atmosphere for outgoing qualities, confident. Hell, if I looked that good I would talk to a lot of strangers. Judging by how she was leaning in and her arms were placed to push her large breasts together, she knew she was attractive. Not a bad thing. It seemed like more of a good trait.
"Uh, yeah I was," I responded, folding the corner of the page I was on and setting the book down in my lap. I stared at her through my thick-rimmed glasses, trying to figure out what she was getting at. Sure, I was there. I'm there almost every Saturday night. My friend was on the cast as well as the fact that Saturday's were one of the days I didn't have work. How she noticed me was completely beyond me though. I usually sat in the back and made idiotic faces at Rowan while he was on stage. "Why do you ask?"
A look of relief washed over her face. Probably that she's happy she hadn't just asked some random guy an out-of-the-blue question that they probably wouldn't understand. For her it wouldn't have been too terrible if I wasn't the guy she was looking for anyways. Any guy would still chase after her. I wasn't really seeking for that kind of stuff though. "Oh, thank god. We knew we saw you before! I'm glad we saw you here. I'm Kate, by the way."
We? No one was next to her or beside her, but now that I was looking around my eye caught someone staring right at me. Another girl, standing there in a way that screamed, ' I would love to run away right now'. It was written all over her face and her posture. Her hands gripped at her black and white polka-dot sundress, what could be shoved in her face without looking weird of her long blonde hair was there. Her expression wasn't exactly enthusiastic anyways. She looked a lot like this Kate girl, just a little bit blander. Her atmosphere was the exact opposite.
Kate turned to look at this new person and waved them over. This timid girl looked around at her surroundings frantically before beginning to make her way to us. I couldn't make any kind of expression that would offend them. On the inside I was confused to what was going on. I wish I could be back to reading my book. Reality was scaring me a little bit.
Up close, the other wasn't bad looking at all. Just from far away she looked like such a child. However out of the two girls it was obvious that maybe some of these self-esteem issues may have come from being the less attractive friend of the two. I understood that feeling completely and always prayed to the poor souls out there feeling the same exact thing.
She tried to smile, soon to give up and retire back to her quivering lip. Her head tilted down so she wouldn't have to look at me. Another thing I could understand. Kate motioned to her with her arms, nodding her head in this girl's direction. "And this is Andrea. You'll have to excuse her, she's not too good at talking to new people." Kate nudged her now, but Andrea was still looking down at her feet. She couldn't look me in the eye.
