Chapter 1: Personal Reasons

"Master Nyx! I got the folder you requested." Gio barges in and hands me the files. "Sorry for intruding rudely Master. I got really excited." He speaks nervously, rubbing at his neck awkwardly.

"It's fine. You may leave." I let him pass this time, hearing the door shut with a loud bang.

Opening the dusty folder, it had multiple letters and envelopes. The once pale white papers where now in vintage for being too antique. I'll deal with this later.
I mentally said to myself, heading downstairs for a meeting with my father's right hand, Julius Devorak.

"Greetings young master. Your father requested this which I haven't told you a long time ago." He lows down his voice; keeping the conversation between the two of us and for others not to hear.

"Me going to school?" I gave him a blank face. "I am not fine with this due to personal reasons." I reasoned out.

"What reasons?" He commanded the reasons out of me.

"Like I said personal reasons. It's confidential and none of your business." I shouted right at his face. Yeah, call me rude. He was being disrespectful first.

I left him alone much to my dismay and entered back into my "kind-of aesthetic room." The dark shades of blue decorated on the walls made it so lively for me. Slumping my numb body on the soft navy blue mattress on the bed, I decided to rest even just a short span of time.

"Sorry to wake you up Madame but dinner is ready." The maid, Mrs. Rivera, lightly nudges me.

"I'll be downstairs in a few minutes. Please invite everyone on the table for me." I commanded, which she nodded hurriedly and left.

Snatching my comfortable black pajamas with its matching bunny slippers, I head downstairs to eat my supper. Sitting down at the head of the table and Julius at the very end, I gave him a cold glare which he also returned back.

The others gathered and sat down on their respective places; just like how my father does every time they have dinner and he treats them like family. I want to do the same things like he did in the past in order to let the members feel that the Night Owl still has their boss and master to guide and protect them if necessary.

"Listen." I grab all of their attention; letting all their gazes focus on me. "Who has connections to make fake birth certificates?" I smirk. One had raise his hand.

"Mr. Watson. We'll be processing this until I got the full command of Mr. Devorak." I told him.

"Yes Boss." He salutes and eats his food on his plate while I sip my apple juice.

"If you mind me asking master... what is this about?" Gio shyly raises his hand.

"I'm going to school." I took a deep sigh. "I contemplated this when I took a nap, having my usual existential crisis." I run my hand on my smooth hazel hair.

"Eat up. We will have our training on the weekend. Mr. Hernandez, I'll have a talk with you at the office when you are done. Mr. Devorak, I want a written proof about my father's will along with the school's address and the fake name I'll use. Mr. Watson, I'll keep you updated." I stand up and pushed back my chair. "Meeting dismissed." I dismiss everyone.

"Mrs. Rivera, I want my apple juice and the finest wine on my office's fridge after I get something on my room." I commanded the maid which she assured me with a nod.

Heading upstairs hurriedly, I grabbed the dusty folded handed to me earlier and went to my office. Closing the black curtains, I sat down on the office chair and opened the folder.

Dear Laura,
If you are reading this, I wrote this letter to inform you that our daughter is acting weird these past few months. She has been constantly calling out for you. I am hoping I do get a reply from you. I beg for your help.

      Sincerely,
Roberto Dawson

Laura. My mother. The witch who turned me into a monster and ran away from my father. She is to be rumoured that she remarried to a reaper but nevertheless, I do not care less if I do saw her in the most unexpected places. This office even triggers me because of her faint smell that lingers on the curtains and files that she used to arrange for my father.

I do not blame her for everything though. They have their equal shares with my father. If my father didn't send me to an underground wizard school in Britain, I wouldn't be following his will until now. After all, what's done is done after all.

The knock on the door snaps out my conscience. "Come in." I say calmly and see Mr. Hernandez in his simple white v neck shirt and cargo black shorts that covered him until his knees. I signal him to sit on the vacant chair in front of him, which he followed and sat comfortably.

"About that thing earlier young master, what do you want to discuss from me?" He asks with a wave of curiosity but still stayed formal.

"Where is Jade University?" I ask, leaning my chin on my head, looking straight at his dark round gray eyes.

"It is a few blocks from here, young master. My son schools in there." He gave me a small smile. "Why so?" He asks, leaning his back on the chair.

"I want you to enroll me there." I persuade him. "Under the name of..." I trail off while looking at the pile of papers and spotted the name. "Daphne Phoebe Hauzer." I finish.

His eyes showed a hint of uncertainty when he looked at me. "Isn't that dangerous for you young master?" He asks slowly.

"It is but there's a thing called 'disguise' no?" I gave him my smirk.

"Young master being the smart mastermind she is." He compliments. "But...where will you stay?" He asks.

"That's the problem. Don't worry though, I'll find a place for now. I can't live in here unless every night." I lean back on my chair.

"I suggest that you can stay at mine. My wife needs a part time cleaner." He suggests. "Or if you don't want to, it's fine." He covers up what he said earlier—he thought it was disrespectful to say that to his boss.

"It's really fine. I don't really mind." I reply confidently.

"When will you move and enroll?" He asks.

"Next week, Monday. The earlier the better." I replied. "I suggest you enroll by Saturday. " I said, handing him the money.

"Thank you young master." He smiles.

"It's nice making amends with you Mr. Hernandez." I reached out my hand and shook his hand.

"Likewise, Boss." He smiles with his bright white teeth.

"Oh, call me Daphne from now on. After all, I'm living at yours by next week."
