Chapter 5: Playing defenceless

After I was finished eating, I head outside and passed the dark alleyway that serves as a shortcut to my territory. Walking with all the remaining energy I have, I smell something familiar.

The fresh scent of Britain.

"Long time no see Lucette." A feminine voice hiding in the shadows of the algae coated brick walls which made me stop on my tracks. Molly.

"Likewise, Molly." I replied and continued walking.

"Hey! I'm not done with you yet!" She grabs my arm and trapped me on her water lock. The water forms into a ball and suffocated me at its finest. "Elaine and Rachel are enrolling in Jade High. By next week, they'll be there. I suggest you fuck off and let us destroy you!" She laughs with pure evil.

The words she said made me feel a wave of déjà vu. I still put up my act—after all, this dark alleyway is still a public place. I had to act defenceless until a random bystander saves my "poor" arse.

Let us destroy you!

The moment she said that with her fresh British accent could only mean that they weren't done with me. They're not giving up on me and still want to fuck up everything I do. She already left me inside this water lock spell and I couldn't do anything but play dead. Will I just let myself do what they requested? Well, no. I am not revealing who I am in public. It has too many risks. I can't -

"Hey! Stop drowning her!" A man's voice boomed in and I opened my eyes. Molly is running away. The spell was wearing off and I was coughing to death; spitting the water with blood mixed in as well.

"Jesus Roxanne! You made me worried!" Blake wraps me with his jacket and hugged me tight.

"I-"

"You'll not be saying another word. I know you'll kill me later of my rudeness but you made me worried enough." He softly scolds me and I mustered all of my strength to roll my eyes at him.

"You should be at least thankful Donovan saved your fucking ass out there." He kisses my forehead; an act that I was used to since he was shitless scared of my safety.

"We'll treat her on my house. If it is okay." Donovan offered.

"We don't have a choice do we?" Blake gave him a small smile.

"I'll just round up the truck so you won't carry her all the way."

"Thanks bud."

"Who is he?" I ask. Donovan was the same guy that I found quiet intimidating after all. Can't avoid girl hormones after all.

"Well Boss, he's Vincent Donovan Hernandez. Son of the ophthalmologist, James Hernandez." He smirks.

"No wonder they have a significance." I mumble.

"Well, they're related." He replied.

"That thing he did a while a go," I cough. "why did he do it? He could've just left me there." I blurted out.

"He's not the type of guy to leave a girl choking on a spell. He's not an asshole like you see in most guys Lucette." He explains until we hear a car's horn echoed.

"That's are our cue." He carries me bridal style and puts me down on the passenger seat at the back and sits beside me.

"You do know I am not a baby and I can stand and walk by myself." I crossed my arms.

"You're welcome." He scoffs in reply.

"I swear dude your relationship with her is bizarre." Donovan smirks at me through the front mirror.

"She's just cold and salty. Nothing much for an eerie relationship." Blake runs his hand through his hair.

"The bathroom is two doors away from the brown door on the second floor. I'll bring extra clothes." Donovan smiles at me and I nod and mouthed a 'thank you' and climbed up the stairs.

The second floor seems cold. The faint smell of green tea and matcha still lingers on the place. I enter the bathroom and take in the place in front of me.

The shiny and slippery marble floor matches its walls with a gradient of blue and basically, everything is here. Removing my damp clothes and placed them on the sink, I filled the bathtub with water and the grape scented liquid.

Relaxing at the lukewarm body, I look up at the ceiling. Am I weak? I believed that I'm not but I don't think so either. Does it even matter? My position as the head of a mafia gang seems powerful to send people out of my way.

For now, I have to get out of here. After all, this is not my home. Donovan was too kind to let me have a bath at his house. Does he even know the existence of magic?

"Sorry for not knocking." Donovan gave me a small smile. "Here is the extra clothes Blake gave." He puts the clothes beside the plant which has a dry surface.

"Thanks." I gave him a small sympathetic smile and he closes the door silently. Standing up, I drain the water and wiped myself with a soft white towel and changed into a black loose shirt which obviously belongs to Blake and his old badminton shorts when we used to play the sport when we were kids. Surprisingly, it fits me.

"Have a snack." Donovan invites me to the kitchen.

"I have eaten at the cafe. Thank you for the offer but I have to decline. You did a lot for me and I must return the favor someday." I stare at him blankly.

"Blake! Roxanne's already out!" Donovan shouts for Blake and he went out from a room; which I guess is the guest room.

"Let's go back Roxanne." Blake smirks at my outfit which was all of his clothes.

"I'll see you later dude." Donovan waves as Blake opens the door.

"Sure. See you later." Blake replies and held my hand until we are a few houses away from Donovan's.

"Rachel and Elaine are going to Jade High by next week." I spoke to him.

"Shit. You must change everything from your look." Blake looks at me and puts his arm around my shoulder.

"Brown hair and blue eyes." I recommend.

"Wavy brown hair looks nice." Blake adds.

"More like a nerd type?" I ask.

"Yeah so they can't distinguish Lucette and Daphne." Blake gave me his toothy grin.

"I must say," I trail off. "You have great taste in women."

"It runs through my veins cupcake." He teases and I elbowed his ribs.

"Say that shitty nickname at school, I'll break your ribs." I threat.

"Geez Boss." He rubs his ribs.

"Let's just go home. Mrs. Rivera might be worried about your whereabouts." I crossed my arms and just in time, June, Mrs. Rivera's daughter rushes to hug Blake.

"You don't have to run like that,June. You might get hurt." Blake pats her head and she smiles.

"Oh hi Boss!" She salutes at me and I saluted back. We walked together inside the house and were greeted with Mrs. Rivera's warm smile.

"Glad that you are back Boss and Blake." Mrs. Rivera smiles and we both nod.

"Now you mister need to do your homework." Mrs. Rivera playfully scolds Blake.

He groans at that. There is no denying that homework sucks for him. I wonder if I'll feel the same way.
