I'm Olivia Marie, I am 17 with stage four lung cancer. I've been battling this fatuous disease for seven freaking years and counting, and I honestly think it's ironic because I used to think that I would grow up and get married to this like super model guy, and have a big house with kids, and be healthy as a horse. But you see all that changed though, when I woke up screaming and gasping for air, but couldn't seem to get any into my straining lungs. It was only moments later my parents were throwing my stuff into their car, and speeding down the highway to get me to the hospital before it was to late.
I honestly don't remember much from that day, but I do remember the nurse and doctors telling my parents that it looked like I wasn't going to make it much longer. When I heard those words , meant only for my parents ears, I made myself a promise that I was going to live, and kick cancers ass. So, here I am now with my parents in the stale smelling hospital, getting ready to get my chemo treatment over with.
" Olivia?" my mother said sounding tired and sad.
"Yeah mom?"
" Honey, there is something we have to tell you, and I don't think you'll want to do it but you have to...."
" Ok....what is it?" I ask terrified to know, but still curiosity nipped at me.
" We have to cut you hair now, and I know that was the one thing you wanted to keep, but they are giving a new treatment plan and this will make it to where it will just fall out, an....."
I cut my mother off with one look, and sat there trying to comprehend why she thought I cared so much about cutting my hair..... then I realised something that she was trying to indirectly tell me.
" My chemo is work-king anymore?" I sat there and waited for any type of answer, but never got one, at least not an answer with words. I just looked at my hands after that, never answering my mothers words, and just debated on whether or not I wanted to cry in front of everyone.
"Miss. Olivia, we will see you now" said a tiny, blonde headed nurse from the doorway.
I looked up at the nurse with a look of pure spite even though she did nothing to deserve it, and stood up and walked to the door. I tried to pay attention to what she and the other doctors were saying, but all I could focus on was the fact that my body was betraying me and my promise. I guess I was still spaced out, because when I stopped thinking about my betraying body, the doctor stood there waving his hand in front of face calling my name repeatedly.
"Miss. Olivia, welcome back" he chuckled and continued " so as you are aware, we are going to be giving you stronger treatments. I just wanted to tell you about the side effects of this treatment if you aren't already aware of them, and talk to you about what we call "cancer wishes", so before we begin, do you have any questions?"
