Hermione's POV

My insides writhed with excitement as I push my trolley through Kings Cross. I get quite a lot of odd looks because of all my funny packages, but I ignore everyone else as I wheel towards platforms nine and ten. Today, after months of waiting, I would finally see my friends and boyfriend.

The station was, of course, packed with Muggles. I leaned casually on the barrier separating platforms nine and ten. Suddenly the scarlet steam engine, the Hogwarts Express, appeared in front of me. The station was packed with young wizards and witches and their families.

Since most seventh years missed a year of Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall decided that previous seventh years should redo their year, which meant I would probably have classes with Ginny and Luna. Now that Hogwarts had been repaired and reopened, most young people were dying to go.

A redheaded girl with dark brown eyes appeared suddenly in front of me.

"Hey Ginny," I said.

"Hi Hermione." She looked different than I would have imagined. Her brow was furrowed as though she were deep in thought.

"What's wrong? Where's Harry and Ron?"

"You hit it on the nose. Harry and Ron."

"What did they do?"

Ginny sighed and glanced over her shoulder.  "Ron's being a prick and Harry's...Harry."

I had no idea what she meant so I just asked again where Harry and Ron were.

"Over there," she said, pointing towards the train. "I don't think they've gotten on yet." With that, she turned and walked away. I made my way to where Ginny had pointed.

I had just spotted Ron's bright red head when someone bumped into me. I nearly fell over, but thankfully I was holding onto my trolley.

"Watch where you're going, Mudblood," said the sneering voice of Draco Malfoy.

"No one calls anyone "Mudblood" anymore, Malfoy," I said angrily.

"Watch your mouth Mudblood or I'll-"

"What will you do Malfoy?" I whirled around and was quite surprised to see Harry and Ron had appeared next to me.

Malfoy's sneer widened. "Well if it isn't Potty and Weasel. Come to rescue the Mudblood?" Malfoy's mocking voice hit me like a slap. I glared at him.

"Just go away Malfoy," Ron said angrily. Malfoy, still laughing, strolled right past me. Just as I began to relax, his thin hand grabbed my wrist. Ron and Harry started forward.

"Don't!" I yelled. "You'll get in trouble!"

"Listen to her," Malfoy scoffed. "Pretty little thing, isn't she? Watch out, Potter. The Dark Lord may be gone, but plenty of people want revenge." With that he pushed me back and melted into the crowd.

"Hermione, are you all right?" Ron asked anxiously.

I"m fine," I assured him. "It's great to see you guys again!" For about a minute I couldn't breathe as Ron gave me a bear hug. "Ron.. I need air."

"Sorry," he said letting me go with a grin. I hugged Harry and then glanced around.

"Where's your mother?" I asked. Mrs. Weasley had always been an amazing person to me, like a second mother. Ron's smile slipped slightly.

"She... couldn't come," he said quietly. "Fred's death hit us hard." We fell silent, each one of us remembering the sad death of one of the twins.

"How's George?" I asked. Ron shrugged.

"OK I guess. I never really see him anymore." We were silent for a moment longer before we decided to get on the train.

Getting our trunks onto the school train was always a pain in the arse. Finally all our stuff was loaded (including Crookshanks, Pidwidgeon, and Harry's new owl Remus). We started down the aisle, looking for an empty compartment. Towards the end of the train we found one. The only people in it were Luna and Neville.

"Hi," I said pulling back the door. "Do you mind if we sit here?" They smiled and nodded. "Thanks."

Harry, Ron, and I put away our trunks and settled into our seats. I let Crookshanks out and, to everyone's surprise, he leaped onto Ron's lap and settled onto him. At first Ron looked horrified, but then he smiled at our shocked expressions.

"I guess he likes me," Ron said.

"I guess so," I said. I checked my watch. It was 10:59. "The train's gonna leave soon." The words had barely left my mouth when the whistle blew and the train lurched away from the station.

Harry grinned. "You're becoming quite the seer Hermione," he joked. Everyone laughed and I flushed.

"Very funny Harry," I said sarcastically. We spent the next couple hours playing Exploding Snap while waiting for the food trolley. Finally it came.

"Anything off the trolley dear?" the witch asked.

We buy as much as we can before we settle to eat. Ron starts right for the Chocolate Frogs. He just started chewing when his eyes widened. He started to cough as he choked on his food.

"Harry!" he gasped. He shoved the famous witch or wizard card at Harry. Harry's eyes widened as well.

"What is it?" Neville, Luna, and I asked at the same time.

"It's my own card," Harry said.

"Read it!" Luna encouraged.

Harry took a deep breath and began.

"'Harry Potter, known as the Boy Who Lived and the Chosen One, is credited with the defeat of Lord Voldemort. He stopped Voldemort once as an infant and again at the Battle of Hogwarts. Mr.Potter is currently attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.'"

We sat in stunned silence.

"Enjoying your fame, eh Potter?"

"Get out Malfoy." I said irritably without turning toward him.

"That's no way to treat your escort, Mudblood." He said. We turned to him in shock. He held up a piece of parchment. "Orders of Professor McGonagall. We are the new Head Boy and Girl."

"I'm not going anywhere with you Malfoy," I said sharply. He sneered.

"We'll see about that." He said.

"There are five of us and one of you," Luna pointed out.

"Let's just go Granger," he said. "I don't have all day."

"Fine," I huffed.

"Hermione you don't-" Harry began.

"It's fine guys," I said. I stood and followed Malfoy.
