I sat down at lunch with a tray of food and sighed, picking at the bits of food on my tray. My friends around me must've noticed, as I could just barely notice their sad frowns from the edge of my vision. After a bit, one of them stood up and slammed his hands on the table suddenly. "That's it!" He began. "Caylee, you've been upset about what happened to Reese for far too long! That was months ago!" He continued

I didn't really have much of a reaction to that, continuing to pick at the food on my tray. I wasn't very hungry and only got food because my mom monitors my lunch money amount, but I wasn't actually hungry today. I usually am though, so hopefully me not eating lunch today wouldn't alarm my friends too much. I sighed and looked down while my friend from preschool, Corey, began speaking. "How about you, Daisy, Ayden, and I all go for a trip to Florida for a bit! Summer vacation is gonna start any day now, anyways!"

I heard this and finally decided to looked up from my tray to face my friends. "I dunno, Corey... That's a long drive, and we don't have the money to afford plane tickets-"

"Oh, come on! It'd be fun! Just four friends chillin' in the south! If that doesn't cheer you up, then we're outta ideas! Plus, road trips are always fun!" Daisy exclaimed enthusiastically, me chuckling as I rolled my eyes. Daisy was always the optimistic one. After thinking for a few moments, maybe minutes, I sighed and nodded. "Why not?" I replied, looking back at my food tray, poking at what was on the tray.

Ayden, the quiet one in their friend group, smiled, eating his food calmly and peacefully. I thought before picking up a green apple off of my tray and biting into it. I may as well eat something before the road trip, since it'd be annoying to stop every time someone got hungry once they were out of snacks. And knowing Daisy, that'd be pretty quickly. She was really snacky, especially on road trips.

I sighed and took another bite of the apple. Summer vacation was gonna start in two days, so I may as well start packing when I got back to my dormitory.

"All right! That's everything, correct?"

That was Ayden's voice, asking if everything was packed into the car they had decided to drive in. Of course it had to be my car. My car was always chosen for the long road trips. Everyone nodded at him as he closed the trunk, holding the keys as he looked at our small friend group, which only consisted of four people, including myself.

It's been about three to four days since we had decided to go to Florida during our summer vacation, and we finally had everything we needed to set off for the long drive, which would be around twenty hours. I personally don't like car rides, but I really need to get my mind off of things. Plus, we always have the funniest conversations in the car. Several years ago, while they were driving along a mountain, the GPS told them to turn right. However, problem was that to the right of them was the steep cliff of the mountain. Another time the GPS randomly began listing all the streets in the area we were in, which was like ten to fifteen streets, if I had to guess. Point is, the GPS always glitches out on our road trips, and it's absolutely ridiculous.

After snapping out of my train of thought, I saw Ayden toss the keys in Corey's direction. Corey literally jumped back to catch them since Ayden had overthrown the keys, but that didn't stop my friend from falling and hitting the floor. At least she caught the keys, though. He chuckled and turned in our direction. "Remember, we all have our own bags of snacks, which will be located underneath your seat," he began, before glancing over at Daisy. "Which means no stealing snacks from each other because you ran out of snacks halfway in. Got it?"

We all turned to Daisy, who giggled before nodding. "Okay, I get it!" She exclaimed humorously. I rolled my eyes while smiling faintly, glad that I had the chance to get away for a bit, even if I had to struggle with sitting in the cramped car for awhile. Corey opened the door to the front seat and Ayden got into the passenger's seat, leaving Daisy and I the backseat. I opened the left door of the backseat, Daisy getting in on the right side. We all closed the car doors and buckled our seatbelts, Corey adjusting the rear view mirror as she started the car.

Corey turned around to face us as she spoke. "You all ready to go?"

We all nodded, Corey smiling before facing the road once more, starting up the car and the car beginning to move along the concrete road. I leaned against the door beside me and sighed, looking out the window longingly. I really do hope that this trip makes me feel better, though.
