I always look up at the stars whenever I feel lonely. It gives me a sense of peace and comfort. It makes me feel as if the space between us no longer exists. Although it was a bittersweet encounter, she made every difference in my life. I still remember when I first met her seven years ago. I was sitting at my desk as usual, looking up at the night sky while pondering the usual thoughts. Sometimes I wonder why I'm even here. Ever since my wife left me after losing our only daughter, I've been a complete mess. I've long forgotten what happiness felt like and I've forced myself to believe I gave up trying to find it. As much as I've put it aside, I knew deep inside of me, I was longing for it. No matter what I do, I couldn't seem to find the missing piece. Each and every day dragged on like a never-ending story. In the midst of these thoughts, I made a wish on a star.
Not long after, I heard a loud thud in my backyard. I grabbed the closest object and ran down to see what made the sound. I was surprised to see a small girl in a white dress. Rather than wondering why she was in my backyard, I questioned the fact that she seemed to be glowing. Concerned yet frightened, I hesitated to bring her inside. I couldn't just leave her there so I took her in.
I placed her on the couch and ran up to get her a blanket. When I ran back down, I found her sitting and looking around curiously. She turned, looked at me, and gave me a smile.
"Was she okay?" I thought to myself. She fell in my backyard and was unconscious just a minute ago.
"Who was she? Where did she even fall from?" So many questions ran through my mind I didn't know what to ask first. She walked up to me and began talking.
"My name is Eleniel. I heard your wishes and I've come to help you."
"M-my wishes? I'm sorry, what?"
"Yeah, your wishes," she repeated, "I want to help you."
"Okay kid, I appreciate you trying to help me or whatever but we barely know each other and I think we should find your parents."
"Do you live around this area?"
She walked up to the glass door and pointed up at the sky.
"What are you pointing at?" I asked as I looked to see what it was.
"There!" she said pointing up at the sky. " I live up there so taking me home won't be possible."
I didn't know if the kid was crazy or if I was the one going crazy. She's from the sky? Space? "Children these days really have quite the imagination." I thought to myself.
"I'm sorry, none of this is making any sense. So your name is Eleniel and you're from...?"
"Space!" she said with gleaming eyes. "I'm a star."
The kid was definitely the one that's crazy.
"Look ki-"
"Eleniel."
"Eleniel... I'd love to play more make believe with you but I really need to get you home to your parents."
She looked at me then began to run up the stairs. I called out to her as I chased after. By the time I got up the stairs, I found my closet door open with all my things scattered across the floor. She opens the small music box that belonged to my daughter and took out the key.
"What are you doing?" I asked sternly. "Give that back to me right now."
She continued to ignore me and ran to every door, checking to see which one was locked. At the end of the hallway was a pink door decorated with stickers. She inserted the key, unlocked the door, and entered the room.
