"Don't forget," Lexi called out from the kitchen, as she hurriedly finished her cereal before heading off to work. "The new flatmate is moving in today!" I pulled a face as a piece of cereal flew from her mouth and landed on the countertop. "Oops," she shrugged sheepishly.
"Yeah yeah, i'll be here. No job, no boyfriend, where else am I to go?" I lounged back on the couch, still dressed in my pyjama shorts and oversized t-shirt, and my hair fixed in a messy bun which hadn't been washed in at least 5 days. Not the cute messy bun look either, the full on birds nest, actually scared to take it out look. I had been at my parents for the past few weeks, so I missed our shitty old flatmate moving out and consequently meeting the new one who is moving in today. All I knew was his name was Carter.
"Stop with the 'woe is me' act," Lexi rolled her eyes and she grabbed her bag off the dining table. "If you actually got dressed and left the house every once in a while, you might actually meet someone." I huffed and she rolled her eyes once more for good measure before waving and heading out the door.
Deciding my spot on the couch was comfortable, and the new roommate might as well meet me in my natural state, I opted to stay wrapped in the blanket and pushed play on my episode of 'Love Island'.
I had made it through 2 and a half episodes when there was a knock on the door. I shot up at the sound of it subsequently opening. "Hello?" I heard a man's voice call out.
"Oh shit," I whispered, and brushed the crumbs from the final piece of Lexi's banana bread off my shirt. I turned around and saw a guy, assumedly Carter, enter with numerous bags in his arms.
Once he saw me he smiled. "You must be Beverly."
"Just Bev's fine," I corrected, not enjoying the use of my full name. "You must be Carter."
"You'd probably hope so," he smirked, juggling the multiple bags in his arms. "Rather than some random guy coming into your house."
"Not wrong there, guess I'm just gonna have to take your word for it."
He chuckled and glanced down at the stuff in his arms, "am I good to just start moving stuff in?"
I nodded and pointed down the hall, "Yeah, Sabine cleaned her room before she left so its spick and span. You know which one it is?"
"Yeah, Lexi showed me when I came by the other day."
"Cool cool," I nodded, the state of my dress suddenly coming to the forefront of my mind. Lexi never told me he was hot. Like really hot. And I look like a homeless person. What a wonderful first impression Beverly. "Well uh, do you need any help?"
"Na it's alright, I think we'll manage," he smiled and started heading towards the hallway.
Wait we? Did I miss something. Before I could question it anymore another guy came into view. My jaw instantly dropped.
"You!" I shouted quickly.
The guy had barely got through the door so he looked at me rather taken aback by my accusatory remark before recognition set in, a smirk settling onto his face. "You."
"You two know each other?" Carter raised an eyebrow, pausing before walking to his room.
"Uh, we met one night out," I answered awkwardly, biting my lip.
"And the whole next day, pretty sure we missed the concert the next night because we met each other then too..." Finn said smugly, me on the other hand grew angrier and angrier.
"Wow okay," Carter chuckled, clearly not fazed by his friends inference to subtext. "Well, glad I don't need to make the introductions. Come on Grady, help me get this shit to my room. Unless you wanted me to give you two a moment to uh, catch up," he said it with the largest grin on his face I almost threw a couch cushion at him, and I've only just met the guy.
"That will not be necessary," I crossed my arms over my chest and scowled.
"Give her a week mate," Grady winked at me as he followed Carter to the hallway. "She'll be screaming my name, just like she did over the labour day weekend."
"Dick," I called out and decided that, actually, it was in fact appropriate to throw a pillow, but unfortunately it missed him as he had already rounded the corner.

"Aww you're going already?" I stood in the kitchen, arms crossed against my chest, watching with narrowed eyes as Finn headed towards the door. It wasn't 'already', in fact it had been 2 hours of watching them trudge back and froth and then another 2 hours of them in Carter's room setting stuff up I would assume. Who knew guys had so much stuff.
"Don't worry, i'll be back tonight," Finn winked.
I frowned and my arms dropped from my sides. "What? You've been here all day. Aren't you sick of each other yet."
"I've been here sober all day," Finn reached for the door handle. "It's a Friday night, Bev. Do you remember those?"
"Yes I do," I furrowed my eyebrows and scrunched up my face. "I'm going out tonight actually," I blatantly lied. I in fact had no intentions of going out tonight, instead had plans of continuing to watch Love Island while stuffing my face with popcorn and chocolate, but I couldn't let Finn know that.
"Oh you are? Drink with me and Car then. Get the other flatmate too."
"Well, unsurprisingly, I do not want to consume alcohol while I'm in your presence again," I turned and walked further into the kitchen. "Turns out I make bad decisions when that happens."
Finn chuckled but proceeded to ignore the latter part of my remark. "Why? Scared you'll succumb to my charms again?" He smirked and came forward, leaning against the kitchen bench. I scoffed and rolled my eyes, but couldn't deny he looked sexy with his biceps bulging as he leant against that bench. "And may I remind you, at least 24 hours spent with me were sober."
"Nope," I blushed as he kept reminding me of those nights last year. "You do not need to keep reminding me."He chuckled and stood up from the bench, heading towards the door again. "See you tonight then!"
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes again and watched as he left. As soon as the door closed I threw my head back and groaned.
Who had I pissed off enough to ensure my luck would run like this?
