"Lexi, thank god," I gasped when she came through the door, and clambered over the couch towards her.
"Bev, hey," she looked me up and down and pulled a face. "Have you really not showered all day?"
"Stop," I pressed a finger to her lips before anything else offensive came out her mouth. I also had something much more important to discuss than my hygiene. "We're going out tonight."
She quirked an eyebrow and scooted around me, dropping groceries on the bench. "We are?"
"Yes. With Carter and his friend."
Her look of confusion was replaced with a knowing smirk. "Ahhh I see, is this friend of Carter's as sexy as he is then?"
"Yeah," I hissed and threw a stray tea towel in her direction. "What's up with that? You never told me he was hot! I would have got dressed or at least brushed my hair or something."
Lexi began to unpack her groceries and shrugged in response. "You should do that anyway, and he has a girlfriend so didn't think it really matters."
"But he brought him," I pouted and sighed, resting against the bench. "And I look a bum."
"Who is 'him'." She furrowed her eyebrows and reached onto the top shelf to put her cereal away, probably needing more because she spat hers all over the bench this morning.
"Him!" I exclaimed and waved my hand about. "You know, that guy from last years labour weekend."
Lexi looked confused for a moment, clearly raking her brain, before a huge grin spread across her face. "Oh my god, curvy nob guy?"
I grimaced as I was reminded of the not-so-flattering nickname my friends who had heard of my escapades from labour weekend had given to the guy when I didn't leave out any details of his appendage.
"It wasn't that curvy, only from that one angle," I was getting off track here. "Anyway, yes him! Him and Carter are best mates and I got the pleasure of spending the day with a long forgotten one night stand."
"Well if memory serves," a sly smirk spread across my best friend's features. "It was more than just one night."
"Okay," pressing my hands against my ears I turned away. "I don't need this, I've had it from him all day." Lexi at this point, was cackling so hard, I thought she'd bust a rib. "Stop, it's not funny," I swotted the same tea towel at her and she collapsed on the ground, still howling with laughter, but trying to avoid my swots.
"Everything okay in here?" Carter came out with his hands in his pockets, and his dark curly hair wet and sticking to his forehead. He really was sexy, it was a shame he was my flatmate. Flatmates were off limits, everyone knows that, it's an unwritten rule.
Oh, and he has a girlfriend.
"Yup," I blew a stray piece of hair out of my face and rested on my elbows in an attempt to look somewhat natural while on the kitchen floor.
He continued to give us a funny look but shrugged, "I'm making a beer run, you girls want anything?"
"Yup," I gave Lexi a stern look. She was not a huge fan of going out now she was settled with her boyfriend, Marcus. People really turn into Nana's when they get into relationships, it's really depressing for us single friends who are left behind having to find ways to entertain ourselves. "We'll take two bottles of the cheapest Pinot Gris."
"Cool," he grabbed his keys off the counter, already having made himself at home. "I'll see you soon." Opening the door he stopped before exiting completely, "You girls don't mind if a few people come over tonight for some drinks do you?"
We both shook our heads, still on the kitchen floor. "Cool," he nodded and left.
"So, why are we going out?" Lexi brushed herself off. "I've been at work all day, I was hoping Marcus would come over and we could have a nice night in."
"Well bring him over and we can have a nice night out," I urged.
"Why are you so keen? Do you want to get into this guy again?"
"NO!" I cut her off too quickly, it looked suspicious. "Absolutely not, I just want to have fun. We never go out anymore. Come on..."
"Fine," Lexi grumbled and pulled herself up. "But there is no fooling me, I could bet money on curvy nob ending up in your bed tonight, both of you with a suspect lack of clothes."
Scoffing, I turned and headed into the hallway. But I couldn't deny there was a little part of me that maybe wanted to get with Finn.
Only a little part though.
The littlest.

A few people for drinks ended up being a full blown house party. When I exited my room after getting ready, the house was brimming with people I didn't know, music was blaring and the lights were low. Carter definition of 'a few' was different to mine, that was for sure.
"Bev," a hand gripped my arm. I looked to see it was Carter. He looked extra sexy tonight. His curly brown mop was swept back and the very prominent dimples in his cheeks were on full display due to his wide grin tonight. His girlfriend was a lucky lady. "Your wine is in the fridge."
"Thanks," I smiled and kept an eye out for Lexi as I made my way to the fridge. I opened it and located my probably $8 bottle of white. I closed the fridge and grabbed a glass, pouring the wine in. I had to have some semblance of class with such a dirt poor bottle. Besides, I wasn't 18 anymore I reminded myself, watching the liquid flow.
"Wow, almost unrecognisable from your topknot-oversized-shirt-no-shower-look you were rocking today," a voice teased from beside me.
"Shut up, Grady," I mimicked the nickname Carter called him.
"Woah, it's a look," Finn chuckled, leaning against the counter beside me. I gulped as his bicep bulged as his weight balanced on his arm. I was a sucker for a man's arms and Finn's were a killer. "Not sure many girls could pull off the homeless vibe quite like you."
"Did you need anything?" I sighed, I never realised how intolerable he was the last time we were together. Probably because there wasn't a lot of talking last time.
"Just give me a shout when you're ready to hit the sack tonight, I'd be more than happy to accompany you."
I rolled my eyes and brushed past him, spotting Lexi over his shoulder. "I'm sure you would, but unfortunately, not going to happen."
"Give it time!" He called after me.
I waded through the people to where Lexi and Marcus stood. Even at a house party they were wrapped up in each other, looking into each others eyes and grinning like fools. Made me sick. "Was that curvy nob?"
"Stop calling him that," I elbowed Lexi while she chuckled and Marcus gave her a bewildered look. "And yes, it was."
"You didn't tell me how fucking hot he was, next time skimp out on the details of his appendage and keep it to the perfection of his features," she goggled at him, I swear I almost saw drool coming out her mouth.
"Hey Lexi, this is Marcus," I waved a hand in front of her face. "Your boyfriend, i'm sure you've met."
"Sorry Mar," she smiled her puppy dog eyes up at him, which he fell for every time. "I'm just trying to get my girl back on the horse."
"I don't need help in that department, but thank you," I rolled my eyes and waded back into the party, deciding that hanging with couples was cramping my style.
Not much more happened at the party, it was rather uneventful unfortunately. And I didn't see Finn again, which I couldn't tell if I was disappointed about or not.
The party died down around 1:30am, people either heading to town or going home. I helped Lexi and Marcus clean up a bit but we decided to just leave it to the morning, when our other flatmate can help us out. I crawled into bed, barely bothering to get undressed or take off my make-up, and welcomed sleep.
