A young girl rolled down a lush green hill filled with flowers, giggling maniacally. Her eyes were a bright green, her hair pink, purple, green and black.
On a closer inspection, her skin was a pale gold tinged with green, her ears pointed, and her eyes held more years than the four-year-old body let on.
"Breena! Senn homa!" a musical voice called.
"Senná, Morí!" she yelled, springing to her feet and dusting off her shimmering gold dress.
She bounded over to a sea of tri-coloured hair and golden skin, all tending the vast amount of flowers. A woman with beautiful features stood up.
"Breena, Dhan ken," she smiled.
"Na?!" Breena gasped.
A man with short choppy black hair and paper white skin broke the line between the grass and the sky.
"Daddy!" Breena squealed, running towards him inhumanly fast. A pair of black wings streaked with gold snapped open from her back, lifting her into her father's arms.
"Hey, princess!" he grinned, plucking Breena from the air. "How's my little Dark Aura doing?" He whirled her around, his own pair of midnight wings unfolding. She squeaked, kicking her bare feet.
"Daddy, put me down! It's nearly dinner time!"
He froze."Dinner time?" She nodded. He proceeded to encircle her in his wings and pretended to eat her.
"No, please! Daddy, stop! Please don't eat me!" she shrieked. "Mummy! He's eating me!!"
Her mother, the woman from earlier, stepped over the others who were still kneeling in the grass.
"Now Kalen. It is too late to eat our daughter by now. She is twelve years old and is much too mature of mind to consume," she scolded jokingly, scooping Breena out of his arms.
"But...but Lilli!" Kalen whined. "Just a little piece?" Lilli tutted, shaking her head. She kissed the pouting fairy's nose.
"No, nín...Are there any other languages you would like me to refuse in?"
He huffed, crossing his arms.
"Kalen, you are five hundred. Not five."
Lilli walked back to her place in the crowd and sat Breena in one of the many abnormally large sunflowers. She touched the petals and they closed around the child. Breena poked them and they unfurled again.
"Breena..." Lilli warned, closing them again. A look around the valley showed a horde of children, ranging in age from a few months to fifteen years old, sitting obediently in their sunflowers.
"The other children are not using their powers," she pointed out meaningfully. Breena squirmed.
"But they don't have wings!" she complained, the back petals of the flower jerking around as she tried to wriggle her wings free.
"Oops. Reñ, Breena!" Lilli winced, running her fingers over the constricting petals. Breena sighed as her wings stretched out, fluttering in the afternoon breeze. Kalen reappeared, making them jump slightly, holding peaches and cuts of meat. Breena inhaled sharply, suddenly reaching for the food.
"Hä, Dhan?" she pleaded.
"Okay, Breena. I can't stand when you pull the Auric line on me," he sighed, setting the meal on the toadstool in front of her. She started to shovel the food in her mouth like she had not eaten for days on end.
Lilli groaned. "Sometimes I wonder how old she really is!"
