A Saturday night, my steps plowing through the rain towards home, below an ordinary blue umbrella. My name is Clive.
I am a simple man, making my life by tutoring kids. I was confused at first; aimless on what to do and what to achieve. But now... it felt like a routine, numbing my own senses. I felt like a robot and that's the only way I know how to get through.
My love life was a wreck. I was rejected, broken up; those scars were only the memories which stuck in me. Sad, isn't it? Even on this... supposedly endearing Saturday night, the count increases. Mhm, my recent partner broke up with me.
They said I was too stoic, too composed; 'you are too boring', verbatim. The previous break-up was also... similar to what I went through today too. She cried; wailed as she spouted her disappointment towards me. As usual, all I did was just looking down, saying sorry while demeaning myself all the time.
I wish someone can understand me. But the world won't wait for me, would it? I need to focus on what's going on in my life right now. Survive.
After that break-up, I went to a nearby convenience store to print my schedules for next week, just to make sure. I'm quite forgetful regards of my daily routines, so I have to print it and put it on my board in my room. I also printed a lot of question for my students for later tutors, too.
I had to walk home through a club, a place that I rather not visit. On the way though, I saw someone crying under the lamp, burst into tears like a kid, which I found rather... unpleasant to see. And he was so annoyingly loud too. I just... want that wailing to end, and my instincts guided my steps towards him.
"Hey," I tried to reach out to him—
"What? S-stop bugging me!", he instantly yelled on me without looking me in the eye, his face looked down with his tears falling down alongside the raindrops.
"...You're going to be sick if you're staying under this drizzle," I explained, followed by a long sigh.
"You can stay here, or you can follow me. You look quite a mess.", I said stoically, like I was always been.
"Who the hell are you? Shut up and leave me alone!", he yelled again, with his index finger pointed at my face.
"I'm just a stranger," I offered my hand to him. He... looked at it, and slapped my hand away. I didn't know what happened; I dropped my umbrella instantly and held him in my arms.
"What the— what—", he stuttered as I hugged him tight. I didn't care if he's wet nor if my shirt got wet. After I hugged him, he started to bawl and buried his face. I couldn't understand what he was saying, and he kept crying and crying... until he passed out on my shoulders.
"Pardon," I excused myself as I lifted him and carried him towards my flat under the rain.
A new leaf has turned and a heart has started to regenerate itself, due to a spark of warmth within that... unexpected hug.
