Zamyra POV

Every day since I've moved here, I've seen a group of boys run with bats and gloves and one baseball in their hand. They had to be good. Everyday they would play after school and in the summer they didn't miss a day! I wanted to be apart of it.

And today was gonna be that day. I got outta bed and put on shorts and a sports bra. I grabbed my bag and my glove. I was ready. I've always been a sports girl, but I wasn't a tomboy. I loved sports, but I also embraced my girly girl side.

I love getting down and dirty when I had to but I also loved getting dressed up and hanging out with my girls. It's just me.

"Bye dad! I'm going out to play!" "Okay honey, be inside by 7!" He yelled back from her room. My dad and I lived in California. We just moved to Ogden, Utah about three months ago. My dad wanted a new start, he was hurting from my mom, which I could understand. My mom past away when I was about 5, I'm 16 now. I don't remember much from her, but I know she was a wonderful woman and loved me. My dad talks about her to me almost everyday.

I walked outside and saw Scotty. I waved at him. I didn't talk to him much since he wasn't in my grade and we went to separate schools but he was my neighbor. I remember when I moved next to him.  And I also saw how he quickly became friends with Benny and the rest of the team. Maybe he knows where they play at.

"Hi Zamyra." He stuttered. "Hey Scotty." I smiled. He blushed and looked down. "You ready for the 6th grade?" "Yeah of course! I made sure I graduated with all A's." "That's amazing man. Keep going." "You're going to the 10th grade right? Along with Benny." "Yeah that's right." "Good luck." "Luck is for suckers." I winked. "Yeah." He giggled.

"I have a question." "Yeah Zamyra?" "Where do you go to play baseball?" "Oh, we go to the Sandlot." He smiled. "We?" "Me and the guys." "Oh cool, thanks. You've gotten better. I've seen you practice." "Thanks. Can you play?" "Of course." I waved my bat and glove. "Maybe I can come and join." He looked worried.

"What's wrong?" "Uhh nothing! Nothing's wrong! It's just the boys aren't that friendly. I wouldn't want them to hurt your feelings." I laughed. "Trust me it's nothing they can say or do to hurt my feelings. I am tough. I can take it." "Yea that's what I'm scared about." I heard him mutter.

I put my hand on his shoulder. "Come on. I can take it." I smiled. "Okay." He smiled back. "Come on." I secretly squealed in my head.

"Hey guys!" "Smalls your late and so is Benny!" A chubby kid yelled at him. "Sorry Ham. I got distracted." All the boys crowed around me. "We can see why." A nerdy boy took off his glasses and rubbed them. "Hi I'm Zamyra." I smiled. They all starred at me. "Well..... okayyyy then."

Benny POV

I saw all the boys crowed around something. I walked up to them and saw a girl. It was Zamyra. What was she doing here? I always seen her at school but she hangs around with all the popular kids. What is she doing around us.

"I wanted to know if I can join you guys today? I'm pretty good." I heard her say. I walked up to them. "Sorry I'm late..." "Are you hearing this Benny!" Ham laughed. "Listen hun the only thing you can play with is this meat and look pretty as you do." He said. "Come on man. She's a lady." Kenny said. She walked up to him and got into his face. "On the field I'm a baseball player. Don't mistake my looks for my game." She said to him.

"Woahh." Yeah Yeah instigated. "Is that right?" Squints muttered. "Damn right." "Benny what do you have to say about this?" Smalls said. They all looked at me. What can I say without hurting her feelings. "I don't want you to get hurt. They won't go easy on you." She walked up to me. I was a giant compared to her. Her face was to my chest. I could have thrown her if I wanted to.
