I stood there in front of David, his gun drawn. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the panel that Caleb told me about, but I did not move. My mind was racing as fast as my heart was, I have to think of something quickly and now. An idea illuminated in my mind.

"I'm not here for what you think I am after, David." I said slowly, very cautiously. The grip he had on his gun tightened, still aiming straight for my head. "Sure you aren't!" He said mockingly. I inched my way towards the panel. The gun followed my movement as his finger tightened over the trigger. "Stop right there, Beatrice Prior! One more step and I'll kill you!" David shouted. I was shocked by the fact that he called me by my full name.

All of the sudden, a gunshot fired and my eyes shut tightly, the sound of a body hitting the floor was heard also. The noise of the gunshot was ringing in my ears. I didn't feel any pain, so what was that? My eyes slowly opened, expecting to be in whatever afterlife exists. Instead, I see David on the ground, dead. Caleb stood behind him with a gun, his hands shaking.

"I can't believe I didn't miss.." Caleb said breathlessly as he put the gun down. I didn't say a word, instead I ran to him and hugged him as tightly as I could. For that moment, I forgot that he didn't try to stop my execution or when I visited him in Erudite headquarters. After a moment, I let go of him and went to the panel and pressed the correct buttons.

A sigh of relieve escaped my lips as I turned to my brother. The effects of the Death Serum passed, I no longer felt the pull of death. "How did you manage to do that?" I asked Caleb as I approached him. He smiled and said, "Luck I guess. Plus a security guard's cooperation." I laughed a little and we started to make our way out.

"Let's go wait for the others." I said, as the bad memories of Caleb's betrayal returned.
