No matter where I looked, dead bodies were littered in every direction. I couldn't believe how many people had died all because of one simple mistake. The smell of fresh blood suddenly wafted into my nostrils, making my face gag in disgust. However, no matter how many dead innocent people were lying on the ground now, I knew that there would be more to come. Suddenly a large, almost humanoid, creature arose from underneath a pile of rotting flesh. For the first time in years, I actually felt frightened for what lied ahead of me. However, the feeling of a hand gripping itself around my shoulder startled me. I looked over to see who the owner of the mysterious hand was. Not to my surprise; however, was standing someone who instantly made me feel at ease. It was him. A man who kept his cool and knew exactly what to do. He looked at me with soft eyes that said exactly what I needed to hear.

Everything is going to be ok. As long as we have each other, nothing can stand in our way.

I instantly nodded, knowing that we would get through this together. We both took our gase off of each other and looked at the creature that was slowly creeping towards us. He then drew out his weapon, keeping all of his focus on the creature. I looked at him and saw that he was gripping his weapon as if it were the last thing on earth. I followed suit and took out my weapon as well.
"You ready for this?" he said, making sure that I wasn't going to back out at the last second. I smirked at his doubtfulness. "I don't know, I mean, I could just easily let you take care of this while I go and be a damsel in distress." He gave me a sarcastic look, letting me know that he was seriously questioning my humor. "...But I won't".
He then smiled at me, happy to know that I would be fighting alongside him. Just like we have for the past few years. We looked at each other again and said almost in sync.

"I love you"

"I love you"

We then started to laugh, I definitely don't think that we were expecting to say that at the same time. However, a loud, booming sound returned us to the situation at hand. We both instantly were brought back to the harsh reality we were stuck in. He looked over at me, almost playfully. Oh boy.
"You ready to take this guy down?". I chuckled a bit. He isn't usually one to crack a joke during a serious time like this. "Is that even a question?".
We both ended up smiling at each other, then looking back at the creature who was getting closer by the minute. And soon enough, the creature knelt down on the ground falling into a puddle of its own blood.
