No thank you EU!
Our communities are going to be affected if we let this happen. The amount of people that read fanfiction on a daily basis is towering! If Article 13 goes ahead then that means the end of Wattpad! We can't let this happen.
People read fanfiction for a lot more than entertainment; they read fanfiction for an escape. They need the fanfiction to be able to escape their boring and terrible realities. They need it to escape the abuse they are going through. They need it to feel like they are not alone. Every body has a specific reason for reading the fanfiction that they do. I read the fanfiction I do to cope with what has happened in my life. I read rape recovery stories, I read self harming stories, I read lgbt+ stories because I need them to cope and to laugh and to just be me.
Some people are just the same.
The side of the characters that aren't shown on TV? That's what some need to relate too and that's why people write that side we never see. It makes them feel less alone. It makes them feel powerful. It makes them feel like, "if they can do it, I can too!"
Some people are afraid to show their talent to the real world and so hide behind usernames and an electronic screen to write what they feel needs to be said.
