Monday August 1st
I finally arrived to SKETCH. I've been waiting for this day for the LONGEST time. My stepfather was just killing me already. The way he talks to my mom... ugh. I wish I could beat him up, but he would only get the best of me.
I've wanted to get out of NYC for the longest time, and the second I found out about SKETCH High-school of Arts and Sports, I knew that was my future home. I sent in a video audition singing an acoustic cover of "Follow You" by Bring Me The Horizon. Me my friends from NYC would listen to him a lot, and even though I really enjoy rock music, I am definitely gonna miss screaming "Spotlight"'s words in Jacob's car.
Getting here was exhausting. I took a plane at 3:45 am for 6 hours and 20 minutes (I kept count while being bored to death of the same 21 songs on my phone and not eating the very uneatable food they gave me), and I arrived at 10:05 pm. Now that I am here, I just really can't wait to get to my room and sleep, at last, without an old man snoring his lungs out right next to my ear.
The principal's office looks way too tidy, and it smells like cinnamon. You thought it was a woman? No, it's a man. Principal Porter. I can see he has a unusual addiction to scented candles. As I mentioned, the cinnamon one was recently lit, so the room is definitely smelly. Not that I am complaining. A girlfriend from back home also had her own scented candles collection, just hers... were... interesting. Pizza scent, bacon scent, beer, STRIPPERS. She for sure collected them just to have a hobby, I don't think she fell asleep every night to the smell of strippers. And anyways, it was never lit.
Principal Porter sat down in front of me after letting me in. He took a good look at me, up and down, left and right. Not missing a detail.
- So you're the famous Midna Lynch?
- Yes! Well, not famous. Not even close actually. I mean, I definitely would love to be but I am... not... - At this point I realized I was talking non-sense by being obviously nervous. I don't usually get nervous, but something about this place at 11 pm, makes me really love it already, and I am terrified of being kicked out.
- You made quite a performance, you know? I didn't watch you audition video personally but--
- You didn't?
- No. And I would appreciate if you didn't interrupt. - I slid a bit down on my chair, from obvious embarrassment. - I never watch the audition videos, or check the audition emails. I only attend the real life auditions, or let's say selections. - I looked wide eyed probably, because he clearly caught that I didn't understand what he was saying. - I am talking about football. You know, they have to come to LA to play a game and only the best players get selected. I am the best at recognizing sport talent. Anyways, your audition became quickly viral around the school. Everyone loved it. - He said it completely uninterested. - All the art students and even some sport students couldn't stop talking about it. You're... quite a star here at SKETCH already. Specially because you're not a freshman, but a sophomore. Now why is it that you left your old high-school?
- I just... wanted something more focused on my future, and a new beginning.
- Yeah well.. touching. So, it's 11 pm and at this moment I would be at home in my night gown with my wife, but I clearly had to stay late because of you, so here's your key. - I put my hand forward to grab it. - Don't lose it. We hate late complains from kids saying they're locked out of their rooms. Now go.
- Thank you Principal. - I quickly ran out and closed the door behind me. I sighed. It was so stressful, and so dark. Being at the other side of the country, in Los Angeles out of all places! Jacob and Saria sure envied me.
I found my room quite fast actually. First wing, floor 7, door 6. I unpacked everything I had carried with me as soon as I arrived, cause I didn't want to leave it for the last days of the summer. I had a plan to go out and enjoy these days in Malibu and Santa Monica and Beverly Hills! Well you get the point. I left my outfit for tomorrow on this chair near my door. I'm not usually this tidy but as I said, I wanted a new beginning. So I am going to get it.
