I woke up and the events proceeding my whereabouts flooded back to me. I had been kidnapped. This was not what I imagined independance to feel like; instead I was trapped again. In a much more dangerous and even less appealing way. I wearily took in my surroundings, noting that I wasn't bound in any type of way. The lighting in the room was poor and I tried to stick to the walls, so I wouldn't trip on anything along the search. A few moments after I began to familiarize myself with the room, a door squeeled as it opened. In any other circumstance that noise would be extremely annoying, but I rejoiced in it this once.
"Hello, princess." A woman's voice cooed, contrary to the man that abducted me in the first place. My eyes snapped towards the person that possessed the voice and I was met with cloudy green eyes nestled into a baggy, gray skinned face. I almost had to do a double take at the face because I couldn't be sure whether the woman was a woman. Her face strongly resembled that of a man.
I stayed silent and she chuckled, a deep sound that made me shiver. The woman -?- came closer and put a hand on my cheek. I stiffened, attempting to pull away, but her hand tightened. Claws dug into my cheek and I hissed. "Don't pull away from me; I'm here to help you, Princess. Trust me." I wanted to laugh in her face - trust her? She just kidnapped me!!
"My methods may seem a bit crooked, sweeetheart, but I know what's best for you. You're a runaway. Your mother is dead and your father doesn't understand you. You want a life on land instead of living on sea forever. Sweet, sweet Lynnette. I know you. More than you know yourself. And I'm here to help."
"How?" I whispered. My throat was tight now and I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to know how she was going to help. I didn't want her to know me."Your little roommate, Baylee. She's been lying to you." I shook my head, not believing a word she spoke. Afterall, Baylee had given me no reason to distrust her. She was the one person that I knew I could count on more than anything else in the world. And I hadn't even known her for that long. She exuted an energy that drew me to her. Not in a romantic way, but a way I didn't feel connected with my sisters. A level I should feel with them.
"She doesn't work at Disney World and she's using your paycheck to feed her gambling addiction. Didn't you notice how she was adamant about keeping the fact that you lived with her a secret? Don't deny that she's shady. Don't deny it, Lynnette. The signs are all there. She has money and doesn't have to worry about prices for anything someone wants to buy. You've never seen her work. Not to mention, a girl who works at Disney all day, yet never has a tan" My eyes widened and I couldn't control my thoughts. I opened my mouth to make a remark, but closed it when all the facts began to add up. No, no, no, not Baylee. It couldn't be her.
"Don't return to her, Lynnette. Don't let her drag you down with her. I can get you out, Lynnette. Let me get you out." I nodded, unable to stop myself. The woman grinned. I realized I didn't even know her name.
"Who are you?"
"I am Kimi." I nodded, my body beginning to tremble. I was cold and my normal bravado wasn't there. Maybe because I had no energy, or because I was literally scared thoughtless. I was going to be a dead teen runaway soon. Kimi approached, her saunter was intimidating, matching the stare she was giving me."Arnold, Donald! Get in here, now!" Kimi yelled and I backed even closer into the corner. Two large men entered the room, each having their own menacing looking weapon. It was too dark for me to be able to well what exactly they were. "Arnold and Donald are going to explain a few things to you about what you are going to do when we release you." Release me?! I would be free again? I nodded, enthusiastically.
"We will let you go, so that you will intercept Eric Van Rosenthal. You won't say anything to him about any of this or we will know. Now, the next part is simple enough. You have to make him fall in love with you. Once he does, we will be in touch. And, of course, you won't say anything to Eric about our encounter, right? And we have one last requirement. You aren't approach or even communicate with Baylee. Or she will die." Baylee? My heart hurt at the thought of Baylee not existing, no matter what she may or may not have done. Baylee was, well, she was the best person I'd ever met. This Eric. This couldn't be my Eric. It was a common enough name. Not The Eric, as in, the Eric who helped me escape? My eyebrows furrowed, but I wouldn't argue. Not at the sake of my own life.
Pardon the selfishness.
"But, I don't understand. Why do you need me to help you? What are you going to do to him?"
"You will know all that you need to know when we need you to know it. And only then. We are going to give you three weeks to seduce Mr. Van Rosenthal. If you fail to do so, then we will interfere and, well, you, Little Lynnette, will be no more. Do we make ourselves clear?" The stout man spoke and I agreed, but my head hurt as I tried to wrap my head around what had been asked of me."Please, Kimi, don't make me do this if you're going to hurt him. I don't want for anyone to be hurt." The three just laughed, "Sweet, sweet child, it isn't about what you want anymore. It's about your will to survive. Now, now, don't cry. No one here is going to pity you. And do you know why that is?" I shook my head, trying to stop the pooling in my eyes. "Because you had it easy on that cruise ship, but you got greedy, so you ran away. Where did that lead? Here, in this very position you are in. Oh, you poor, unfortunate soul." She cackled out the last sentence sarcastically and I couldn't stop the sob inside me from clawing its way out.
"Oh, and just to make sure that you don't make a fuss as we lay out our trap for your mann." Kimi added. The men stalked towards me and one raised his hand, but before I could make a sound
THWACK!And, I fell into darkness.
