I am sitting outside in the orchard, reading. Sugar is munching on the apples that have fallen off the apple trees. A few hours go by and I get bored. I stop reading and get on Sugar. I put my book in the pouch that I made and strapped it to her saddle. I lead her down the row of apple trees to a lake. She stops to drink and I look around to see what part of the farm this is, but is not my farm.
Then I hear something moving in the trees on the other side of the lake. Sugar stops drinking and pricks her ears up. I look around, and see something fall into the lake. Sugar sprints back down the row of apple trees. I try to look back, but the wind pushes my hair in front of and all I see is black.
Sugar starts to slow down once I can’t see the lake anymore. I try to lead her back. She hesitates, but then starts to walk back. Sugar stops about twenty meters away from the lake, and won’t go any further so I get off her and start to walk.
I go right up to the water’s edge and look in, but there is nothing there. Then something covers my eyes. I turn around to try and see what is covering them. As I turn around my heel gets court on a rock and I fall backwards. I tense up, to brace myself falling into the lake and getting wet.
I don’t fall though, and I don’t get wet. A pair of hands are holding my waist, supporting me so I don’t fall. I can’t see who it is because my head is tilted back and everything is upside down. I swing my head up and hit something hard.
I opened my eyes and a boy my age is crouched down on the floor clutching his head. I slowly walk towards him and bend down. “Are you okay” I say. He looks up. There is a red mark just above his right eye. “Yer I’m fine but did you hit me with a bolder or something.”
I playfully push his shoulder, it is all wet. “No. Were you the thing that fell in the lake while I was riding Sugar” I say, standing up. “Yeah I fell in the lake. And I am guessing Sugar is the white and brown horse you were on” he said as he stood up. “Yeah Sugar is my horse” I say. I started to walk over to where I left Sugar, and the boy followed me.
We started to talk. I found out his name is Oscar. He has three younger sisters and an older brother and he has a really close friend named Toby. We finally reached Sugar who found a nice shady spot to rest. “This is Sugar” I said pointing to her. Oscar looks at Sugar and then walks up to her to pat her. “Hey have you ever ridden a horse before” I say as I crouched down to pat Sugar too.
“No” Oscar said. I stand up and signal Sugar to do the same. I get on Sugar and help Oscar on as well. Oscar wraps his arms around my waist a shiver goes down my spine. I kick Sugars sides and she sprints down the row of apple trees. Every time Sugar steps Oscar tightens his grip around my waist.
Sugar starts to slow down once I can see my house. Oscar looks up “You have a nice farm” he loosens his grip around my waist so I can breathe again. “Thanks” I say as I did Oscar jumped off and helped me down.
“How about I give you a tour of the farm” I say as I started to walk around the side of the house. “Okay this is the barn, cows, sheep and this is Sugars stable” I say pointing to all the animals. “This is my orchard it has the best apples” I pick two bright red apples off a tree and handed one to Oscar.
