Chapter II: Royal Escort

Alice woke up to an empty space on the large bed beside her and the sound of rapid footsteps of someone running towards the bedroom. She braced herself as soon as her instincts made her realize what that meant.

"MOTHER!!" a four-year old burst into the room. The toddler seemed to be playing all over the house because of his head that was soaked with sweat. Silver would always be the one that sweats the most because of how much he hated the hot weather. The steps stopped at beside the bed, where Alice was laying. Two shiny silver coloured eyes, the origin of the boy's name, peeked from the edge of the bed. Alice could not help but smile.

"Oh dear, how did you become like this?" she sat up and reached to pick up her sweaty son. Alice wiped Silver's forehead with her sleeve and she turned to the empty space of the bed beside her. Lux had already woke up and left. Lux had been spending more and more time at the castle the past months. He was given a task of watching after prince Diego as he was already at the age to have an advance level of education. Silver was too young to learn anything advance, but he was at a good age to get to know and make connection with the young prince that he would have to serve later in life. Just like when Lux was young, under the reign of the previous king before Aither.

The garden inside the castle wall was the perfect place for Alive to come and wait for Lux. She had brought Silver along this time. As Alice was only sitting on the grass field, Silver already went into the flower area and started picking a fistful of flower petals. All the colours were mixed together in his little hand. Some were yellow, some were purple or red. Once he had picked the right amount of petals, he ran towards his mother.

"Flower rain!" he yelled before throwing the petals in the air, letting it fall over him and Alice. Silver laughed as Alive was startled by all the petals that fell on all over her head. She turned to her son that was laughing until he had to sit on the grass beside her. She could not help but laugh with him.

The little joy moment came to a sudden end when the laughing was interrupted by the sound of Lux clearing his throat. The looks on the knight's face had clearly showed that he was not that happy with what he saw.

"Silver" he called without having to greet the two, not even Alice, "come with me" he ordered in a stern tone. With the sound that had scared the boy, Silver immediately got up to his feet and made his way towards his father. Lux took his son's hand before walking with him into the large castle. They walked through many corridors, many of them were empty but there would be some of the corridors that was full of the servants in the castle. The two walked into the middle of the main part of the castle, up the stairs for many levels. They finally reached the level of the castle that was almost as if there was no one living in. Silver had no idea where his father was taking him. Lux only looked forward as he kept walking. Then he stopped before a double door. On at the both side of the doorway were soldiers guarding. Lux knocked the door without saying a word to the guarding soldiers. He waited until he was given a permission from a man behind the doors before pushing one of the doors open. Silver followed his father into a large grey room. There was a large balcony opposite to the door, the room was almost half outdoor. At the center of the room was a long dining table. On the table were a tray of fruits, another tray with a jug of wine and golden cups, another tray of cheese and few candles on its stand. Two chairs were each at both ends of the table. Seven-year old prince Diego was sitting at one of the end having a slice of pie and a cup of herb tea. King Aither was sitting opposite to him, but he was reading a large book. Lux stopped a few steps away from the table before getting on one knee and bowed his head.

"Your grace, I have brought my son as you summoned" Lux said as his hand was pressing his son's head down to make him bow down for the king who was sitting before the two of them. Aither looked up from his book to his knight and the toddler. He gave a warm smile and nodded before speaking softly.
